Are you afraid of getting older?

From the land of haribos.

Continue here any late comers, it was interesting to see the replies.

I had an an interesting discussion about it, it was about if you would be afraid of getting older.

I am 41 and I am not afraid of getting older, but I would say that I am thinking a bit more about it how it is to be older.

In comparison to when I was younger when I didnt think about it, it seems that the older you get, the more you think about it.

What is your view about it, are you afraid of getting older or do you just think about how it is to be older?

I'm a active person and I've noticed my body is no longer as capable as it once was. I'm 33, so I guess this is the beginning of the end and it definitely is something I think about.

I also think about mortality alot more than ever before. I seem to be at an age where losing friends is becoming more common and it sits at the back of my brain

From the land of haribos.

I also want to reply to this from the other thread:

"Out of interest when does one become 'old'?"

I think that many have different views on that of when it is. I would say from 65 years or so

I notice I’m not as fit as I once was, have to watch what I’m eating more, and it takes longer to lose weight when it goes on.

I know I’m getting older, but I try not to dwell on it. I figure if I think about being old, it will make me old. I keep my mind active, my body active and live every moment to it’s fullest, while I still can.

I don't think that there is an age where old age starts, it's body and mind dependant. We know men and women that are a lot younger than we are but are certainly older in body and mind than us

Nah, it's 39

Or, if we're talking to Uniladio, it's actually nearer 25. Or 25.5

No.not really.

I've done most of the things I set out to do.

Once my body needs a rest I'll happily be in the rocking chair with the cat.

I know it’s inevitable, so it’s not worth pretending it isn’t…….but I can see effects of age that I guess I wish weren’t there.

I also thought I’d have done more than I have by now and time seems to fly by all the quicker.

Hi OP, we can't control time....i.e. a ticking cock.....do I fear getting older....not one bit....once we look after ourselves....there's absolutely nothing to fear...Men are now living longer.... average age for Men born in the 1940s is now 82-84yrs....that's good going

That's even Men who smoke & drink....

Me....if I'm healthy & have a good quality of life....I hope to live to my late 90s....

Growing old is a terrifying thought to me. I dread the time I turn 25 as I will no longer be young and happy. God forbid the time I turn 30 where I will be middle age. If there was ever a cure for aging, I would take it in an instant.

Finedon ,

Having somehow made it to the ripe old age of 83 I don't think there is much more to be afraid of.

When I wake up in a morning I push my arms into the air and then outwards and if I do not touch wood I know I am still alive and ready to have whatever life throws at me.

My target age of 99 still remains.

Not really afraid no

2 of my closest relatives didn't live to a very old age. I think getting older can be seen as a privilege, we don't all get to see.

I do worry about still being able to do the things I enjoy and keep my independence. I work in healthcare so I see a lot of older people struggling.
