Is it a lie?

Do women get accustomed to their beauty and male attention due to their make up making them look better than naturally they are?

I'm not saying yes but I was in the mood to see some strong arguments being presented here. I'm feeling devilish

I don't wear anywhere near as much make up as I used to, and it's made no difference at all.

It's actually less to worry about, so I'm not confident. Don't have to worry about fake lashes coming off, foundation being patchy, getting caught in the rain.

I literally do my brows, mascara and lipstick.

The only makeup I wear is a blatant red lipstick, so I don't think mine is a lie.

Maybe those people who basically restructure their whole face could count as a lie, but then are they selling the real them underneath long term or just a fantasy for an evening? I think that makes a difference.

Make up is a crutch yes. Just like a beard is (hello Jason Momoa... And me). It covers, alters and hides imperfections thst we feel need to be.

However it also makes a lot of people feel better about themselves. Gives them confidence. While I think too much make up can have a negative effect, it can turn people away more than the "imperfections" we feel we have in the first place ever would.

Eyeliner and mascara is my day to day wear.

If I'm going out I'll put minimal foundation on and eyeshadow aswell.

I reckon I never spend more than 2-3mins doing my make up. I probably should...

Not sure if that actually answered the question... I never went to the extremes where I was catfishing. Didn't go in for all the fakery and face sculpting stuff. No Botox or fillers.

I’ve no idea. Make up does make me look better than I naturally am. I’ve always worn it. Probably always will.

You could say the same about other things too though, like people picking certain clothes because it highlights particular features or only sharing certain pictures of themselves online.

La la land

I personally don't think make up makes anyone look any better. It's not like it's going to make me look significantly different.

I think there's the very made up aesthetic, which I guess makes someone look very different but it's obvious that they have a lot of make up on.

Make up that enhances? Bring it on.

Slapped on with a trowel? No ta.

I've no issue with make up at all. If it makes someone feel happier and more confident then all power to them. If they choose not to? Again - all good.

What I'm not a fan of is Snapchat style photo filters and overly edited photos so that you sit next to each other for half an hour when waiting to meet because you can't actually tell its them!

Women wearing make up to enhance themselves is no different to men working out to get a six pack because they feel it makes them more attractive, careful grooming of beards and facial hair, wearing certain trousers because they think it makes their butt look cute, tattoos, piercings, certain clothes and colours that they feel enhances their appearance.

For me as a transwoman it has a hugh effect. It allows me to make my face appear rounder and more feminine. This makes people less inclined to make hurtful comments and probably more importantly it helps quell my dysphoria.

Delightful Bliss

Make up is just there to help us conform to societies beauty standards, same as bulge busting clothes. If we all wore what made us happy and sod what anyone else thinks, we should look like and wear. The world would be a happier place.

And no Brucey, I don't wear face altering make up, just a little eyeshadow and lippy for some sparkles, cos I like it

Most days I don’t bother wearing makeup (and neither does Nuts but he has a beautiful beard). If we’re going out I’ll occasionally wear minimal foundation and mascara but nothing too crazy

I love makeup and always feel more confident and attractive when I wear it. I also know I get more interest/attention from men when I’m done up.

If makeup is applied well and in natural colours, men will often still consider it a ‘natural look’, even though we could secretly be wearing ten layers

In the most simplistic sense, makeup can also make someone appear more youthful (smoother skin, brighter eyes, longer lashes), healthier (blushed cheeks) and aroused (full rosy lips) and therefore more fertile. We are all simple beings at the core

Some of us need the help Brucey and no I don't want to hear that we don't because some of us really do.

I wear makeup daily. I need 20 mins in the morning to sit down and sort out my hair and makeup. I don't like my appearance as it is, but makeup makes me feel more confident. I have acne and a lot of redness, so foundation evens this out. I also have wonky eyebrows, so filling them in a little helps to make me feel a little better about myself. I like to think I wear makeup to enhance what I have. Is it a lie? I don't know. I still think I look like me, just a better version. I don't really care what anyone else thinks because I do it for myself, to make myself feel good.

I have had so many people comment on my makeup over the years and the attitude from women especially is horrendous. I particularly find there is a lot of bitchiness from school run mums who can never understand why someone would wear makeup daily. But they'll never understand my struggles and I do think a good bit of it is jealousy too seeing someone so put together.

I don't think makeup necessarily makes someone better than they are in terms of aesthetically, no.

What it does do? It gives a person a confidence boost. A way of having fun, expressing themselves.

Aren't people who have more confidence, are fun and open to expressing themselves more attractive?

I don't wear makeup often at all. Day to day, nothing. If I'm making an effort, mascara, eyeshadow and sometimes red lipstick.

I don't think I'm better or worse than someone who does wear it - it's something I've never got to grips with because a) when I was younger makeup for non-white people was truly shocking and b) I preferred getting lost in some fictional world to learning how to do it well.

I'm currently considering getting my make up done for a Christmas social. It'll be great fun to pamper myself, try new things. Learn about my features and what works. Makeup isn't a lie. It's taking what you have and having fun with it.

If men are stupid enough to not realise people can look different without makeup on and it's not for them, it's for the wearer, they're probably too stupid to know how to fuck.

Of course make up makes anyone look better, that's the point. Hiding insecurities or perfecting your face isn't a bad thing but it can change a face for sure. Men need to understand the woman they go to bed with might not be the same woman in the morning
