When I left school there was over 6 million unemployed in this country. We only had three channels on the TV.

However we could save up for a house and actually pay it off. (Once you secured a job)

You could get a grant (not a loan) to go to University.

No such thing as the gig economy or influencers.

You didn’t need a Bank Account to get paid from your employer.

Walk down the street and not have to avoid someone looking at their phone.

We had a high street.

Very few people worked on Sunday and no shops were open.

Kids played out.

Bullying at School was left at the school gate.

And no social media.

Did we really have it bad ?

Would you swap your childhood and live it again in today’s world ?

My childhood was great overall.

The internet came about when I was 14 I think if I remember rightly but it wasnt bad.

My life was good and simple, bought up by a fantastic mum that did her upmost for us.

Played out and was surrounded by good role models.

Just childhood? Yes. I was bullied relentlessly in a way that would never be tolerated now. I'd probably have a fuckton less mental health shit to deal with as an adult

The following adulthood? Fuck no. The world is fucked and the weight on kids coming of age into this shitshow must be crushing.

I had a shit show of a childhood but I wouldn't swap it for todays world what I went through then would have been made a thousand times worse with the way the world is today.

I hate that my daughter is growing up in a society where it's absolutely normal to get flashed online & romance is sexting.

The cyber bullying & nothing is private.

Technology has it's advantages but I feel it puts a lot of young ones mental health at risk, rather than wanting to be a Dr or vet they want the latest thigh gap or lips to be one of the tik/inst influencers.

I have a love hate relationship with modern day technology.

Thanks for the replies so far. I suppose I was getting fed up of reading the same stuff here and other places consistently criticising young people. If I remember right the way my generation was also criticised by the previous one.

I personally wouldn’t swap my youth to be young today. I have a 10 and 14 year old boys and I fear for their futures.

Be interested in anyone who thinks the youth of today has it a lot easier ?

I think every generation has its hardships and benefits. I don't think the current one has it harder just the hardships are different

My childhood was great, good school, good friends, as for bullying that happened a fair bit until one day when I thought enough is enough.

Like you say millions unemployed and I secured an apprenticeship. Also I bought my first house when I was seventeen with my own wages I paid the mortgage no help from my parent. Wanted to be totally independent.

Kids in my opinion feel like everything is owed to them.

This is our future generation who will take things over from us.
