I reckon the pills are a bit of a rip-off and you don’t know what’s in them. The drink’s quite inexpensive in comparison and metabolises better imo

I work in a gym and train people but I'm not a nutritionist so not going to say just don't take as depends on your goals and the benefits your getting from it... however you can get apple vinegar gummies probably alot more expensive doing it that way but I'd imagine they taste alot better

It is great to treat reflux and IBS. I used to take it with honey and cinnamon. Cinnamon is also really good for reducing insulin resistance.

Only sugar, but it will ruin your diet.

Other possibility is you water it up, salt and pepper, then soak some lettuce in it. Runny salad dressing?

Don't eat or drink shit you don't like, it's unsustainable.

I'd do some research as to why this PT thinks its such a good idea.

I'd be willing to bet this is junk science.

Yep. Junk science. So there's insufficient evidence to be sure it'll help either way. See below..

Fwiw - I'd suggest you work out your TDEE, track your food intake, cut the booze and do exercise you enjoy. If you're trying to get fitter.

****

There is currently no specific evidence to support the efficacy of the ACV diet, however, there are some interesting studies assessing the potential dietary effects of vinegar. However, it should be noted that some of these findings are based on animal studies only.

That said, some human studies have reported positive effects of ACV on feelings of fullness and helping to lower calorie intake. This combined with balancing blood sugar and reducing insulin levels may explain its perceived effects on weight. For example, a study examining the impact of adding vinegar to a meal based on white bread found the people in the study experienced better satiety and reduced blood glucose and insulin responses.

A further study that involved the consumption of 2 tbsp of ACV combined with a 250kcal energy deficit appeared to reduce weight, BMI and hip circumference. However, the evidence supporting ACV as an effective weight loss tool remains low and it may be argued that it’s simply too early to draw any valid conclusions.

Take foul-tasting medicine with meals unless the instructions say not to.

When you are ready to swallow a mouthful of food, tip in the ACV (or nasty medicine) and gulp the lot down. Quickly put more food in your mouth to smother the bad taste.

It isn’t a good idea to mask the taste of the ACV with special foods like sweets and honey, because you risk setting up bad eating habits.

Some guff being said on this thread.

ACV can be helpful for reflux as, counterintuitively, reflux is often the result of too little stomach acid. Often people add some lemon or lime juice to it to increase the acidity. You do need to dilute it though as it is harmful to your teeth otherwise, but if you gulp it down and then rinse your mouth after you should be fine.

You need to use live vinegar which contains “the mother”. This is the live probiotic element that was created as part of the original fermentation process. This can be very good for stomach problems in the same way conventional probiotics are.

Also, it can help with insulin resistance, especially if taken in combination with cinnamon. This can help with sugar control and weight loss.

You can take honey with the mixture to sweeten it, unpasteurised honey being the best, which has its own health benefits.

Taking ACV like this helped tremendously with my reflux.

Talk about guff!

Let's say acid reflux is caused by too little stomach acid, which it isn't, are you saying that a teaspoon of vinegar will correct it?

Makes you wonder why medical professionals suggest antacids which are acid neutralisers

If ACV had all the properties ascribed to it the manufacturers would be advertising it 24/7

Instead all you get is a whole pile of "may" and "might"

I took omeprazole every day for around 6 years for heartburn. Then I started taking a tablespoon of apple cider in water, before meals.

Heart burn cleared up within a week, now I just take it once in a blue moon, when I've over indulged!

There are tablets and gummy’s on the market. Best way n cheapest is to hold nose and gulp it down n take a mouthful of water after. Like vegetables- not enjoyable but puts hair on your Ballz lol

No it isn’t.

I spoke in generalities because this isn’t a medical forum, but here are more specifics for you.

The reason that too low stomach acid can cause reflux is because you have a sphincter at the top of the stomach that opens and closes based on the amount of acid in the stomach. When you eat, your stomach produces acid and thus the sphincter closes stopping acid and acid fumes irritating the oesophagus. However, if you acid is too low the sphincter does not close properly and reflux can occur when this acid is produced. Also, having low acid allows “bad” bacteria and fungus to take hold in the gut, and as a by product they secrete chemicals which further lower stomach acid as they prefer a more alkaline environment. This bad stuff causes fermentation of the food in the gut, which further exacerbates reflux due to the burping action that forces acid up the oesophagus, and that is why for example doctors tell you not to drink fizzy beverages if you have reflux.

Supplementing you stomach acid with vinegar, citrus juices or HCL supplements serves to increase acid levels and thus counter the above phenomenon. You will be amazed how much a tablespoon of vinegar, enhanced by a citrus juice can elevate stomach acid levels. Over time this serves to restore the flora balance in the stomach, and the probiotic bacteria in the Mother also helps with this, as well as benefitting your bowel microbium too.

Clearly you have no understanding of the issues otherwise you would not have referred to doctors prescribing antacids. Just like with antibiotics, doctors have been guilty of over prescribing these. For example, Omeprazole is only meant to be a short term relief, but I know people who have been on it for years. It becomes a viscous circle where it drops your acid so low you become dependant on it because stopping means your reflux is much worse due to the fact the bad stomach flora will have taken greater hold. Also, being on it long term means absorption of nutrients is affected due to the stomachs reduced ability to break down food. Medical science is by definition evolving all the time, and there are many examples of past practices being shown to be ineffective or harmful. For example, antacids were prescribed for decades to treat duodenal ulcers until it was finally discovered they are caused by one of these bad bacteria I mentioned, and should in fact be treated with antibiotics.

Cinnamon is well understood as helping with insulin resistance, as is unpasteurised honey with respect to its anti microbial and other properties.

On your point about manufacturers shouting this out, well they have been, and there has been a huge increase in cider and cider supplements sales as a result.

And in case you missed the bit where I said it helped me greatly, doing the above over a decent period of time finally got me off years of Omeprazole and the like, so I speak from practical experience.

Is that specific enough for you?!
