Are you a room snob?

Do you just require the basics of a bed, a shower and a loo and maybe a kettle and some free tea/coffee, or do you like to splurge when staying away overnight?

Generally I'm happy with something simple and convenient - good old Travelodges and Premier Inns - as as long as the bed is comfy (and they are in those these days) it's more important to be in the right location, have free parking if possible and of course - good company!

But I just found an absolute bargain online for later this month at a hotel I've always wanted to stay at.

And may have just booked a 'Presidential Suite' there......

Guess it's good to splash out sometimes.

As long as it’s clean, that’s my main thing. I like a premier inn as they’ve always been clean. I’ve stayed in some more expensive hotels in London and they’ve just been so grubby. Stayed in a really posh one and pulled back the sheets (I always check the bed

) and there were cockroaches in the bed and loads of baby ones!!! Went to complain and they said it’s because your room is above the kitchens! We’d just eaten in the restaurant too.

I do like the cheapy rooms at the Lodge of Travel but I also like the ones that look like American Motels. As long as they’re clean I’m not too bothered.

But it is nice to treat yourself now and then. Never been in a Presidential Suite before. Do they give you a complimentary fruit bowl full of fruit?

I love a fancy hotel as a treat. Like really love it.

But I'm more than happy with a Premier Inn and something more "characterful" can be fun sometimes too! (looking at you weird hotel in Llandudno)

I've stayed at a couple of very posh places as well as several Malmaisons and I prefer a Premier Inn or a similar quality chain hotel. I really like the anonymity of them - that's nothing to do with sex. I don't meet for sex in hotels. I'd hate a place where they remember me - I want to have my privacy because being in a hotel for a few days is the only time I can do/eat/drink precisely what I want.

I’m a hotel snob. Not even remotely apologetic about that. If I’m staying over somewhere, I want it to be at least as nice as my home. Preferably nicer, so it feels like a treat.

Depends what I'm doing in them. If I am just sleeping or its a fuck and go then the only thing I am precious about is the standard of hygiene - the place and anyone in the room with me!

Can't beat the occasional luxury gaff tho - particularly as I tend to get upgraded when I stay in a 5* hotel!

I'm only really fussed if it's got a clean bed and shower as I don't really stay in them long enough for anything more. Don't care about the drinks (shit coffee) and the TV rarely goes on.

However, I don't mind spending a bit more on luxury if I'm there for a while but that's mostly for more space and perception of leisure

I always spend my annual holiday in the same room in the same Bangkok three-star hotel.

The staff remember me because I tip them well, so I get excellent service.

My room and laundry are sorted while I / we are having breakfast.

The in-house coffee shop / bar staff know what I eat and drink, and when.

I have no problems with visitors, some of whom stay overnight.

I’ve enjoyed really relaxed stays there over the years.

I've never actually stayed in a fancy hotel so wouldn't really know. I'm sure it would feel nice to have something special but when it's just me needing an overnight somewhere I'd rather get something cheap and easy (yes, like myself) as long as it's clean and comfortable to then have money to spend on other things

Generally I go for travelodge/premier inns for most weekends away- I usually have quite a lot of holiday activities planned so I’m not inside the hotel room much, just basically for showering/sleep.

For a romantic night away though, I do like a nicer hotel

I like a nice hotel, great room with lovely views, amazing service, fantastic breakfast and a lovely bar for pre dinner drinks. Not many offer it all. Especially service which can be diabolical sometimes and got worse in my opinion after covid

The last hotel I was in was a real disappointment. The windows were covered in plastic to hide whatever the view was, and you could see a really stained toilet rim from sitting on the end of the bed. I literally put my bags down and sat looking at the rim. It's just an independent converted office block I think, but you can't always tell about the care they take. The electronic room swabs wouldn't work properly either, I had to take he lift back down 8 floors and get accompanied back up. Other than that it was just a normal bed. I get the feeling the 'chains' are never quite this bad tbh.

I do like to stay somewhere more interesting or luxurious occasionally for a special occasion.

This isn't because I'm a hotel snob, I'm fine with a Premier Inn. A cheap chain hotel. A more mid market hotel.

I do however, enjoy nice hotels. When I can find rooms in 4*/5* hotels for cheaper than the budget brands, why would I stay in the latter?

I like floor to ceiling windows to be fucked against (I know, how shocking). I love good baths (hello freestanding roll tops) or big walk in showers with that rainfall feature. I love huge comfy beds for relaxing in, interesting decor for enjoying and taking photos. I love a good breakfast in the morning. Big fluffy dressing gowns to wrap myself in after a steaming hot shower to help soothe my body that's aching from the previous night's/morning's antics.

If I'm spending time with someone and we'll probably be having sex, I want that escapism, the excitement that comes from dressing up and meeting someone in a nice hotel. The sound of heels across the reception floor. The signature scent of a hotel.

*I will say I'm really biased and I'm not a hotel snob. At all. Maybe a little bit. I'm fine with Premier Inns et al.

I ended up in a place with a double shower last week. It was just a shame that I couldn’t find anyone to share it with me.

Logistics dictates that it’s the Premier Inn this week, but it’s nice enough and clean.

Travel lodges in general are way down my list when staying away with work, locations are often poor.. premier inns are better and at least you’ve got a restaurant and bar on site without driving if you’re exhausted..

I not used one since lockdown. I belong to accor hotels. First one I used was full of stains and got second one free.

We’d probably cry if we got told how we’ve spent on hotels over the last few years but the memories have been priceless

...It entirely depends on the purpose of the stay.

Fab related = large bed and shower

Business/pleasure = quirky features where we can take photos

I definitely prefer to stay somewhere better than I've got at home, or I tend to feel a bit slummy, unless it's quirky, or there's purpose behind it

I guess it just comes down to timing and dates.

I crashed in a travelodge last night. £35. Suited me fine.

For the same room on the same night in November that I've gone 'posh' it would be £74.

The posh hotel room? £110. I thought it was a website error but thought 'fuck it, lets see', paid, got my confirmation and that was that. Well worth it just for the experience. And I'm definitely taking the camera.........

Mainly stay at the Prem-inn, but thats due to work being cheapskates and us lot grumbling if they try to drop down to Travelodge level.

Did once get put up in a suite at the hotel by the London Eye for work, think it was a mistake as my boss just got a normal room...they weren't best pleased, even more so when they found out i spent all of about 5 hours in it, as i'd arranged a liaison with someone in advance and had to get up early for breakfast

If i'm paying, i like the extra comfort- preferably somewhere with a spa/gym in the UK and abroad its usually 4* or 5*...although one of the 4* hotel in the Caribbean was more like a glorified shack, so i'd hate to see what the budget hotel along the road was like.

Stayed in rome twice this month first one was posh and more than twice the price of last week's one! First one had a roof top pool and bar which did it for me! Last week's was very tired and old! But it was clean and had what we needed except no kettle tea/coffee facilities! Nice friendly staff and certainly had character! X
