Let's get a list of Holloween-related activities we're indulging in.

For example, this morning I watched The Black Cat starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi - a pre-code film with a viscious edge they wouldn't have been able to get away with a few years later. Lugosi plays a former soldier who has tracked down a former comrade (Karloff) who betrayed him (leading to a lengthy spell in a brutal prison) and spirited away his wife and daughter. In the latter's remote house they look to settle old scores in a game of death.

The title comes from a Poe short story but I don't think much else in it does. Easily available online for those interested.

Oh, those are both excellent ideas for later. It must be at least a month since we last watched Lost Boys Might even have rice or noodles for tea!

"Starting this unseasonably bright morning with more Boris Karloff in...The Ghoul from 1933."

Just heard the following line in the film;

'He believed the spirit of a nudist would come and collect his soul.'

Took my brain a moment to work out that the line was 'He believed the spirit of Anubis would come and collect his soul.'

Watching Island of Lost Souls - a 1932 adaptation of HG Wells' Island of Dr Moreau. It was banned in the UK for decades for being too strong for British audiences...
