What are you listening now days?

What's cool now?

Most of my favorites die, go comercial or can't sing anymore.

The only surprise is the Helloween unification.

Last modern bands I listened were:

Avantasia, Eclipse, Gotthard, Godsmack, Bullet FMV, Korpiklaani, Stratovarius, Hammerfall...etc.

Most of them have 80's feel.

Not a fan of death/black metal and nu metal.

Hmm modern metal doesn't do much for me.

My friends like bands like:

Bring Me the Horizon

Hot Milk

Parkway Drive

I think they all sound awful...

The only notable metal band that has stuck out to me in the last 10 years is Animals As Leaders... The Brain Dance is a beautiful piece of music.

Best song from them to start with?

For me it was Avantasia (Edguy), but they are changing direction recently.

The main singer is like young Bruce Dickinson on steroids.

Gary Heidnik was the one that caught my attention.

That Brain Dance is not bad. Kind of world music.

I love all genres of metal equally.

I've had the pleasure of working with many bands over the years.

Most of which are lovely people.

The Parkway drive boys were lovely nutcases

Currently listening to Knocked Loose

The Anchor Jinjer and my next gig after tonight's The Mission gig is Danko Jones. A band with a very traditional 80's hard rock sound.

Well, I would rather meet Klaus Meine, than the Dalai Lama or the Pope.

Yeah but not all the time. More for the odd moment that calls for it, not Joey Jordison style

Some really simple classic rock songs done with double bass. Wasn't necessary a need for it, but sounds betted and the drummer can shine a little bit too.

See I think Dave Grohl IS the best drummer (not technically but for making the best patterns) and he doesn't need it.

The best way to describe it is I use it as much as say, Muse do in the song Kill Or Be Killed if you know it

D.G. took a little bit of every genre including disco, and mushed it together.

He said it in an interview.

Described himself as an average drummer.

I can hear a lot of Black Sabbath influence in his drumming too.

I play a little bit of everything, but guitar is my main instrument.

Not awesome on anything though, but I could play Paranoid on all instruments including singing.

Me too and I don't want to, but running out of options.

If I'd go to a pub quiz about rock/metal/blues/rock and roll 50's to the end of 90's, then I'd win without an effort.

Not sure it's a good or a bad thing in 2023.

We’re pretty eclectic in our tastes. Everything from hair metal and thrash to goth and southern rock. A good tune is a good tune, wouldn’t write a band off just because of who they were if it’s a good song. We do love a wine and music roulette night on the You Tubes here in Country Towers. R.

I'm not ashamed about being mostly old school with my taste.

It's more like I can't discover any more new old music.

I tried suggestions in music streaming apps, google...etc.

Usually they suggest completely different music maybe within the same genre or from the same time.

Mostly the songs I already have.

The only genre I tend to follow the rabbit hole of music suggestions is country. To me this is the new hair metal. Accessibile, catchy, easy to sing along to.

Have discovered a few gems off the path though like Wunderhorse. They’re amazing. (Post punk I believe the toot call it)

The Damn Truth are probably my most recent favourites. Really good live as well. You can tell it's a real proper gigging band. And they're all really nice and down to earth.

I guess "screeching" means high.

How a "wanky" guitar solo sounds?

Just curious.

All guitar solos are wanky. No need for them at all. Screeching is how heavy metal singers tend to wail.

So most metal bands I like pretty much.

I guess you hate Painkiller from Judas Priest then?

If you like Avantasia, take a listen to Ayreon. They are pretty good. Also Threshold...especially Damian Wilson era. Soen are wonderful musicians too.

My favourite however is still Opeth. Amazing dynamics and beautiful playing.

I have met most of them and all nice guys.
