I've just got round to watching E.T for the first time. Great film if you haven't watched it

What film have you watched recently which you should have watched a long time ago?

It's been released a few times I expect, and with a 'directors cut' too (though I don't know why he did this really.)

I took a kid to an arts cinema to see it once, and even though the whole screen suddenly shifted upwards for about 20 mins (ie so half the screen was black - but not the projectionists fault apparently) she still loved it.

I went to the pics every week, and with the choice around I rarely saw a bad film.

My biggest regret now was missing Withnail and I, which I'd love to say I'd seen! I actually put it off to the following week (there was always choice) but despite a glowing review by Barry Norman on Film 85 or whatever, it only had a 2 week run! No one expected it to become the cult film that it did of course. It's a good watch in the cinema too - all the classics get re-released eventually. I had to wait till it was on Channel 4 a year or two later.

"It's not quite as old but you should watch The Mist!

The mist or The Fog???

The mist

I've actually never heard of it.... lol

It's a good watch, that ending

If you're on about the Horror film I'm sure it's The Fog.

The Fog and The Mist are two different horror films both really good, just keep well away from The Fog re-make from a couple of years ago, its dire!

I won't watch either as hate horror films as I'm a scared cat. "

You're missing out!

"Never seen the Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Sound of Music.

I grew up watching War Games & Star Wars. (I think my dad wanted a boy!)"

.

I think there were a number of films like these that were literally shown every year, certainly in the 70's. In the end people complained, and then a lot of them were never shown for a generation if not longer.

Sky came along in the 90's, and now of course those type of films are not necessarily terrestrial-owned.

I used to bunk off from school to watch Humphry Bogart films, 40's/50's musicals, the original romcoms (screwballs), and golden age film noirs.

How do you come by those films now? You have to travel to discover them, when back in the day they were just there for you on the telly. Like classic b/w scifi on BBC 2 after tea.

Welcome back, professor falken.

Some awesome classics in this thread

Yes, makes me think I should watch Sound of Music (maybe)...

Mission Impossible. I always say I've seen it though to avoid having to watch it. There's too many now and I can't make that kind of commitment "

First of all, thank you! Phew, finally a film I can say I've seen and join everyone else in the 'how haven't you seen that?' club.

Mission Impossible is an amazing franchise. The characters, the missions, the music, the stunts (especially in the newer films). It very much is worth the commitment - the hours will fly through and you'll be looking forward to the next film (unfortunately delayed to 2025 ) as soon as you're done!

I haven't seen this one but I always thought it was literally a kids film. Like the Apple Dumpling Gang. Not so much a 'family/classic' like ET (or Sound of Music or Shrek or something).

Is this one really good to watch as an adult?

I'll put it next to Wall-e in my need to watch kids film list. I do actually like a very good kids film a la ET.

Surprised films like Labyrinth, Legend, Gremlins, Stand By Me, the Princess Bride and Neverending Story haven't been mentioned yet tbh. Back to the Future too. Are we just talking about any 80's films? I can't remember! pt

I watched the 1954 film On The Waterfront starring Marlon Brando a couple of years ago. The famous line...

"I could have been somebody. I could have been a contender."

...is one I've heard quoted many times but now I know the context. It's a great film and I highly recommend it.

I also watched the classic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon last year. I thought that was weird. Luke

Yes to the lost boys, gremlins, and most of the mentioned. The Mist not the fog.

I haven't seen ET or the lion King or anything that's animal related since Turner and hooch

I'm adding

guns girls and gambling. Gary Oldman Christian Slater...

Burn without reading

Scary movie 2, coz I've watched it today for some stoopid humour

Identity

Grosse point blank

Renaissance man....just for a young mark whalberg

Wildcats

Chef

And young sherlock Holmes
