Dogs in the workplace

I'm sure there's a few but this time I'm talking canines.

One of the offices I work in have started to allow dogs to come to work. If Fab wasn't distracting enough from working, will the four legged friends just add to this?

Should this become mandatory in workplaces or is it a pawful idea?

Depends on the dogs! Some dogs despite lovely companions are true chaos. Untrained and run wild without discipline or structure.

These dogs are for specific home use only!

Other dogs yes. Don't need to be military trained or anything, but general social manners and reacts to commands. I'll let all the dogs like this in where I work. It's both comforting but allows things to run smooth too.

I think if the dog behaves its fine but if the dog barks at anything and everything then not so good

Some corporate offices I've worked in previously allowed this for years, until the carpets ended up infested with fleas , muddy or wet from dogs being walked at lunch times and the smell of wet dog all afternoon isn't the best.

Technically, my dog is always in my workplace. I don’t find it distracting. People often bring their dogs onto camera in meetings at my place so we can all say how cute they are.

The rules they've set is well trained, no more than 5 in the office and smaller than 20kg. You have to book your dog in and they've built an area outside where they can stretch off

Yeah I don't think that'd wash if it came to an employment tribunal. Presumably people didn't sign up to a workplace with animals in it, so they are not obligated to accept it either. There are myriad valid reasons why people might not want a dog (other than assistance dog) in their workplace. And I do like dogs, btw.

I wish I could take my XL Bully girl to work. She is the best dog I've ever owned. The passion for affection from people the dog displays is insane. We can't take a poop without her being there.

Cuddles are a must at every waking moment. It would be great for her and other people.

She'd be a great stress relief for people. Never a dull or unhappy moment with her.

She cause havoc as most wanted to either throw paper balls for her, feed her or wanted cuddles.

People who are allergic will not want dogs anywhere in the office. People who have a fear of dogs will not want them anywhere. Unless it's something that is advertised upfront as a "thing" (and therefore a clear choice), I don't think we should be bringing dogs into workplaces.

My office and workshop had the bosses 2 collies present almost always. For me that was brilliant. I’m a total collie lover though and probably resonate more with them than humans.

The younger one came as a pup and he became my best buddy. I used to take him to agility training in the evenings, on the company! So I built an agility course in the yard. I miss him more than any of the humans.

If you love collies there’s no better workplace than one where you can go run round an agility course for 20 mins if you’re wound up. Or even hide under the desk cuddled up with your collie mate if you’re feeling low. The girl in the next office and I used to send each other messages and treats by dog post too(nothing naughty).

I think you should know I was in a high stress, dangerous job role with stupidly long hours. I wasn’t a professional skyver although I’ve made it sound that way.

She was gifted chocolate and other goodies by the cleaners and canteen staff. I felt that was enough. Couldn't have her getting an unrealistic view of the workplace, could I?!

i think this is a good idea.

id like to have one of them aggressive type dogs which growls and shows teeth to staff as motivation to work harder.

could also use the dog as part of a fitness regime to chase unfit staff around for a while.

I'd love it if dogs were allowed in my workplace...they're allowed in the US locations, and I'll keep asking for the same to apply over here on every stupid corporate wellbeing survey that we have to fill in.

I'm uncomfortable around dogs and wouldn't want them in the workplace but appreciate I'm probably in the minority. They would also have to ensure people don't have allergies either that could be affected.

I wish mine was calmer so I could take him to work every day to be fair he’s fine till he sees another dog then he’s off wanting to play. I’ve took him before when the site was fenced off and he loved it went off and found some long grass and curled up in it to have a nap and it was great having him there. Another lad in the same trade as me takes his on every job but his is so placid he said he won’t take on a job if customer doesn't want the dog there
