A Fun math's question 2

It takes two gardeners 8 days to mow a lawn.

One is lazy and one is energetic.

The energetic one would only take 12 days to mow it on his own.

How many days would the lazy gardener take to mow the lawn on his own?

The lazy gardener would take twice as long as the energetic one - 24 days; but that's not taking account of the grass growing in the meantime!

I agree. Lazy one seems to work at 50% compared to tge energetic. Therefore should take teice as long as the energetic one took so 2x12 = 24. Let's see if we are right.

Right behind you…. Boo

Hold on. We are talking about mowing a lawn in days? Do they not have a winston? That’s what my kids named my ride on mower.

Is this a question from the 70’s when all they had were the push powered mowers. Also (bare with me), when was the lawn last mowed, by whom and how long did it take?

Thank you for your question. It was very thought provoking.

He’ll finish in 1 day.

Depends. Is the lazy one getting distracted, watching the energetic one ploughing the hot housewife?

A place where others reside (West Oxfordshire)

Definitely 24

Energetic one can do it in 12 days, meaning he cuts 33.3 every 4 days.

In 8 days he would cut 66.6% of the grass, leaving 33.3% for the lazy one.

Double the effort meaning the lazy one would take 24 days.

If it would take the ebergetic gardener 12 days to do it on his own, but only 8 with the assistance of the lazy gardener, then the lazy gardener has effectively contributed one third toward the process, so I would suggest it would take the lazy gardener three times as long as the other and so my answer is 36 days

Though I can not fault the logic here

You're spot on with the 1/3rd but you have to remember he contributed 1/3rd in eight days not 12 days. So it's 8 x 3, not 12 x 3

"Has anyone comfirmed the correct answer yet? "

It is 24 and explained in other comments. A general explanation I like is to consider the work done by both in 1 day:

1/X + 1/12 = 1/8
