"Priapus - he just stands out."

You do realise that according to myth, he was a minor fertility creature depicted as a caricature of the human form and grotesquely misshapen who used to sneak up on sleeping nymphs in an attempt to satisfy his urges, only to have the braying of a loud donkey give the game away.

I always come back to Psyche. She pretty much won against all the odds.

I do like a tale of the underdog winning out.

"Aphrodite the godess off love and beauty "

She also gave Paris the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen of Sparta, wife of Menelaus. Paris took Helen to Troy, and caused the Trojan War. So a little mischievous and spicy too

Okay, so not Xena, then.

The mythological figure I relate to is Tyr. He put his hand in the mouth of the wolf Fenrir, to lull him into a false sense of security while the gods chained him, knowing that Fenrir would bite off his hand when he realised he'd been tricked.

I admire his nobility and his selflessness.

It's a Greek myth not a Christian one.

I think the Greek gods and worshipers were OK with the "deadly sins" as the endulged in them a fair bit

I am not really getting the inference to be honest. I was just sharing what is known about panfora's box, have not thought of it beyond that

The Greeks didn't view the divine as representative of good to aspire for. Perhaps over simplifying (I do know this stuff, but I'm shit posting on a swinging forum, you get what you get) they viewed divinity as more of a function of gaining power and honour (this might be a non ideal translation of the word but... meh. I'm not cracking out the fucking lexicon here), which all creatures engaged in as a zero sum game (in all aspects of life from the Olympics to everyday squabbles).

Particularly in the vein of heroes and the quasi divine, you see that heroism isn't so much about valour, but about what's remarkable/famous. So Ikarus - he flew too close to the sun and his wax-bound wings melted. He survives as a hero because he did something extraordinary. Even though it was extraordinarily *stupid*

The be fair some of the 7 deadly sins are included in what escaped from the box. Greed and envy being among them.

All forms of horrible things, misery and evil, even some unspecified.

The entire thing is a bad thing.

Hope is also viewed as a bad thing, because it leaves us clinging on to what's impossible to attain.

Vague rule of thumb - where there's potential ambiguity to play on like this, it's probably fair to do so in Greek myth

But they were not "deadly sins" to the Greeks. Just things that made us more godlike and the gods more human. That's my slant on it anyway.
