Priest Destroys Pumkins

Reports that a priest in Czechoslovakia which is in Eastern Europe, jumped on and destroyed carved Halloween pumpkins which had been left near his church. This went on for two nights until he was caught by terrified locals. The priest, a man of God, has apologised but does this illustrate the ongoing battle between good and evil. Tom notices that some are already putting eerie displays outside their houses. What's going on here guys. It's all over the news

I used to volunteer at a charity shop where the manageress refused to have a Halloween display as she felt it wasn't Christian. I suppose the priest felt the same way and jumping on pumpkins was his way of protesting. The shop manageress didn't go that far though.

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

Bizarre and slightly ironic misunderstanding amongst religious people, given Halloween is part of Hallowtide,a Christian tradition where people used to light bonfires and dress in costumes to scare evil spirits back to where they came from.

I thought it had its roots in Celtic religious tradition

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

It does,Samhain,Christians adopted the idea of light (bonfires) versus evil (spirits). It is thought the focus on light is in relation to the days shortening.

Is it Tom but some people are already decorating their houses for Halloween. Is it a two week festival now?

I saw decorations outside a house in mid September

When I was young I didn't have pumpkins, but carved a swede (or rather, my parents did). It took forever to get the insides out, so a day or two either side of Halloween to get the most use it of it . Would never have been any more than a couple of days early though

Czechoslvakia as a country hasn't existed since the 31st December 1992. It is now the Czech Republic or Czechia and Slovakia, two independent countries and members of the eu since 2004

So Tom has failed the fact checking and needs to try harder.

Let's not be detracted by the detractors here. They can redraw the borders but one thing remains constant.
