Good bad films

Any other fans of gloriously bad films? The Room is the most famous example of the genre but there are loads of enjoyably terrible films, either low budget b-movies or spectacularly awful big budget ones (Battlefield Earth, The Island Of Dr Moreau).

Do you have any favourites?

couple, us we him her.

Bubba Ho-Tepp is brilliantly bad.

After falling into a lengthy coma following a freak accident involving hip gyration, a now aged Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell) wakes up in an East Texas nursing home, where he befriends Jack (Ossie Davis), an African-American senior who claims to be President John F. Kennedy. After residents of their quiet retirement community start dying of dubiously unnatural causes, Elvis and Jack discover that the perpetrator is Bubba Ho-Tep (Bob Ivy), an Egyptian mummy with murderous intentions.

It's Bruce Campbell what's not to like

Cage is my guilty pleasure. Any situation when he gets to over act the shit out of a role gets my vote. I saw Mandy and the colour out of space in the cinema. Was hoping to see "willy's wonderland" on the big screen but covid happened.

I especially love the output of IFD films and arts.

Their ‘cut and paste’ ninja themed output from the 1980’s is notoriously bad (but incredibly fun!)

Great thread, some classic films!!

First off, yes, Tremors should feature here, maybe one of the best worst films, so goodly bad that it's teetering on the edge of being accepted as an actually good film.

A few mentions of the Toxic Avenger, currently being remade with Peter Dinklage playing the title role.

Hudson Hawk has a very special place in my heart, love that film.

Loving seeing people talk about lesser known classics like Hobo with a Shotgun, Bubba Ho-Tep, Rubber and SwissArmy Man and I never met anyone who's seen the Greasy Stragler, amazingly bizarre. Took me a while to track down a copy of that after stumbling over it on FilmFour late one night.

If you enjoyed Rubber, I recommend you watch more films from the director. Watch Mandibles. Two hapless robbers find a giant fly and decide to train it to rob banks...

Sadly there's no love lost here for Cocaine Bear, I sat down to watch an hour and a half of a bear going doolally off of its face, skipping through the forest and the consequences when it stumbles over unsuspecting ramblers, my heart sank when things were introduced to the film, like .....characters......and story lines.

Not enough bear.

Let's not forget Big Trouble in Little China, Super, Postal, Howard the Duck, Troll, Wizard of Speed and Time, Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (3D), Hawk the Slayer, Killer Condom, Gingerdead Man, the Singing Ringing Tree, My Name is Bruce, Buckaroo Banzai, JCVD, Fido, Odd Thomas, Tusk, Cabin Fever, Dark City, Eraserhead, Meet the Feebles, Bad Taste and many many more.

Hopefully including a film I've still to watch and I have on VHS called The Pilot, 1981, about an alcoholic pilot who, after running out of booze and bad weather causing disasters, a change of destination and delayed flights, risks the lives of the passengers to push forward to a different airport where he knows he can get a drink....

Vamp, should not be on this list, apart from recommending it as worth a watch.

My own personal favourite so bad its good film is ‘Night of the Lepus’ 1972 a horror film about giant rabbits.

Another one which isn’t a bad film but some would disagree, is ….

‘The Beast must Die’ 1974, a millionaire invites several people to his mansion as one of them is a werewolf. This film even has a break near the end for you to guess which one is the werewolf.

Wait...Dark City? That's a brilliant film - what's bad about it? Big Trouble

In Little China...is a spoof rather than a bad film, I'd argue.

Right - a bunch of us at uni used to have movie evenings where the idea was to find movies so bad they're art. For your viewing pleasure, I submit:

Love At Stake

A Man Called Sarge

Russ Meyer's "Up!"

Dracula, Dead and Loving It

Night Hunter

Dark Star

They Live

Repo! The Genetic Opera

... I'm sure there are loads I've forgotten!

Nothing wrong with Dark City, it's just a little OTT at times, dare I say a little overacted or even camp. I loved it though.

Yeah, Big Trouble they were definitely having fun but the producers and studio took it seriously and released it as a serious action film. If you listen to the commentary with Kurt Russell and John Carpenter they are openly laughing how the studio didn't get the joke. Again another film I love. Was a little worried when they announced they were thinking about doing a remake with the Rock, but a little reassured when I heard it would be John Carpenter along the director seat again. I'd be interested to see how he's make the film nowadays.

And yes!! Killer Klowns! Amazing
