"Demonic/possession. Just for tips and stuff you know." Actually, same. I’m not much into horror, but I do have a thing for dark stories with fucked-up Christian mythology. Demons, angels, possession, all that jazz.

"If anyone has suggestions about horror movies involving religious sects please share, that's my niche ![]() Not a film, but have you watched the series Midnight Mass? Horror series set on an island among an ultra religious fishing community.

"Paranormal is my favourite genre. The less is shown, the better. Some personal favourites: Ring (Japanese version), the Blair Witch Project, Rosemary’s Baby, the Ninth Gate (some cultish tones in the last two movies named)." Oh I'd forgotten about the ring, I loved that film. I agree it's scarier the less you actually see, when I was younger I loved jeepers creepers, right up until the end and you actually saw it. Ruined!

"If anyone has suggestions about horror movies involving religious sects please share, that's my niche ![]() The Wailing is fantastic if you've not seen that. Hereditary is the same director as Midsommar and so good. There's also The Last Exorcism. I'm trying to think of the name of one which isn't strictly horror (as in, doesn't feature supernatural etc) but does have a cult. It's a horror in my eyes. Think it's called Red or something? Off to Google, failing that ask my dorky friend. ![]()

"It's less about the genre than the time - I like black and white horror films from the 1930s-1950s. I don't like slasher films, gore, jump scares etc - I prefer atmosphere. That said, I do like Cronenberg and Carpenter even though they can be a bit bloody. " To be fair there are some bangers from that time

"Psychological ones. Or Saw/Hostel" Yeah enjoyed the first ones in those series. The further they went they got a bit samey knowing what was likely to happen. Not seen Saw X yet though

"I finally watched Renfield last week. Meh….but Nicolas Cage was good as Dracula at least, as was Nicholas Hoult, as the titular protagonist. Actually, talking of Hoult, have you all watched Warm Bodies with him in it? It’s a rather unique zombie film and boasts surely the happiest, most upbeat and genuinely touching endings in the entire zombie genre ![]() Oh Renfield! I liked it. It was... ridiculous but very much Cage. Nicholas Hoult was confusingly attractive as Renfield. ![]()

"I quite like the vampire movies, particularly the lost boys, interview with a vampire and the underworld films. But I like all types of horror to a point. Hostel and the hills have eyes was a bit too much for me." I’ve just started watching the new Interview With A Vampire series on iPlayer. Very well made - I shall continue to watch ![]()

Oh I'd forgotten about the ring, I loved that film. I agree it's scarier the less you actually see, when I was younger I loved jeepers creepers, right up until the end and you actually saw it. Ruined! " Yup, in most cases - when something is suggested throughout a movie and then shown at the end - it ends up being disappointing. That’s why I’ve never really given any weight to the most common criticism towards the Blair Witch Project (“you see nothing at the end”), because showing something would have probably worked against the movie. Others I can think of: Psycho, the Birds, It (with Tim Curry as Pennywise, traumatising!), the Shining (THAT scene with the twin girls ![]()
