Personally I’d say Xbox because of their recent purchases of other companies means they have a much bigger range of exclusive games haven’t had a ps for years but have a series S and wouldn’t change it

I’d have said ps5 over xbox but recently purchased a used/modded gaming computer - combines the two and is a game changer

We have both, we generally end up on the PS5 more. So little between them from a tech spec's perspective, all comes down to the games you prefer, and I just prefer the PS5 controller too.

Away for Christmas

Short term PS5

Long term Xbox

Overall the current PS5 exclusives are better for now, it is their main unique selling point. Everything else is shared.

Eventually Microsoft will begin to make ground with this.

The power of the console is barely noticeable for the vast majority of people - it's really not a huge selling point other than to have bragging rights.

A PC is generally just better than both really. Suffers from poorly optimisation for some games (usually patched quickly), and eventually has PS5 exclusives released on it... Years later. It sort of makes having an Xbox redundant really.

Whichever platform your friends are all on, go for that. Unless there’s a particular title you want that’s only on one or the other.

Both have their positives and negatives as companies and systems.

Xbox looks better, has a better operating system (it's Microsoft after all), Game Pass is superior to PlayStation Plus and is interchangeable between the console and PC and the system technology is slightly better.

PlayStation has a larger following - expected for a system approaching its 6th generation and market dominance for years. It has some fantastic exclusives but this is something that gamers are tiring of (exclusivity) and is simple fuel for console wars - something plenty are also tiring of, myself included.

At the end of the day, you like what you like. The differences are marginal at this point. I have owned PlayStations since the first, the same with Xbox, however I find myself preferring the Xbox simply because that's what the majority of my friends & family play - plus I prefer the controllers.

If I didn't have a load of gamepass left I'd move to PS5 next. I'd stay Xbox, but until they change the ability to swap the SSD they're just going to end up as expensive paperweights when the drive fails...until they change that I'll stick with my One X...

Short term - Whatever you want. Long term - PS5. Just try not to stand it upright...

But with the price massive rise in PS+, I am now looking at PC as I hear you only pay for use of internet and not have to pay to use servers?

The liquid metal for the CPU can seep under the foam and short pins, may have been sorted but was an issue on a lot of earlier models.

What games are you playing? My number 1 recommendation if you're interested would be Dragon Quest XIS: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition! (I just like saying the full name, giving it the respect it deserves )

It's the best game I've played regardless of platform.

Reading

I've been an Xbox person since the original launched in the US in Nov 2001.

Still got all my Xboxes. I flirt with the PlayStation's every now and then but the controller symmetrical layout doesn't feel right for me compared to the offset one of the Xbox. Always felt Sony never moved fully into the analogue left stick world and kept with the dpad where it is for too long and now they won't move it as they are too long in the tooth.

For games, I'm not a massive fantasy RPG person so things like god of war and such doesn't interest me and don't has loads like that. Give me a decent racer, football and shooter and I'm good.

Bit as others have said, game pass is huge. I pay 11.99 for ultimate and so get "free" games every month for Xbox and pc. Also means my lad can play game pass games on his Xbox too.

Cdkeys atm has 3months of gamepass for a tenner, I always get from them anyways as cheaper for the pass anyways than direct from Microsoft but thought I'd let people know 3 months for a tenner

PS5 all day long, the exclusives are so much better. Tbh there’s no reason to buy an Xbox at this point. If you have a PC then you get everything that Xbox has. Also a lot of Microsoft’s exclusives are coming to PS5.

Similar. I've been PS only since the age of 14. I think these days though I'd just get the one I thought was best. I'm not such a console fanboy/girl anymore.

When I was younger I was always Sega over Nintendo (didn't back the winner in that one tbf )

They're broadly comparable in terms of capabilities. Sony have traditionally had the better console exclusives, but that's changing after MS snapped up a load of big name studios. And as others have said - Game Pass is phenomenal value (particularly as I haven't paid a penny for it in well over three years - thanks, MS Rewards!). I still have a lot of time for PlayStation, though. I'll get a PS5 at some point, if only for Spider-Man 2

see I much prefer the xbox controller than the ps5 for comfort ...

PC gaming I want to like but I just really hate the concept of sitting at a desk/screens is just so antisocial and uncomfortable for me . before we even get into the shit of using a keyboard for gaming /mouse for many things ..

though I have an older 2017 pc I made for editing that was ok at gaming but by today standards probably garbage .. as it only runs a 4GB GTX1050Ti ...
