High Lighthouse!

Curious question towards (normally) non-rugby watchers. Have you watched any of this World Cup (particularly these quarter finals)?

If so, are you converted?

No. I bet on a couple of matches. Does that count?

Haven't watched.

Have watched in the past.

I don't need to be converted.

Even the most sport agnostic person couldn't help but be awed by these quarter final games.

The modern game is more watchable for non-fans too. A little less arcane.

I haven't watched any of it and don't really watch rugby as it doesn't appeal to me. And part of that is the fans being obnoxious about rugby Vs football because football's popularity hurts their fragile little ego.

Yeah I think the insistence that people have to like sport xyz doesn't help.

I've been forced to sit in front of the television and watch all matter of sportsball.

If I'm not allowed to leave the room or get a book, I turn my back

Let me not care

Can’t decide if people saying they won’t be converted are making rugby based puns or not

That France v South Africa game was insane. I’m more of a League fan than Union but that is one of the best games I’ve ever seen from either code

I've tried. I have. I know what sport I can watch and what I'll be bored by. There comes a point where... just let me not like a thing. You know?

(And would I be so rude about literally anything else? No. But the rudeness of leaving or turning my back is only after lots of polite rebuffing, yes I've tried, no it's really not my thing, oh I can do something else if you want to watch the game right now, yes I'm sure I've watched this particular type of game, I know it's weird but I just don't like it... if you're still going to corner me after me being polite about, I get to turn my damn back!)

The last full rugby match I watched was the world cup final in 2003. Obviously I enjoyed and thought I'd watch a lot more rugby but I didn't.

I tried to watch some home nations etc but couldn't get into it. I only watch the England football team during European and World cups and that's not every match.

I listened to the England cricket team today in their world cup. We're meant to be world beaters in one day cricket, we were thrashed by Afghanistan??

I love football, but I don’t bother with England outside of major tournaments because it’s just not competitive. England vs San Marino, who have never won a match? Boring.

As for the cricket today, we’re under prepared for the match and the pitch suited Afghanistan’s spinners. A common trait on the sub continent sadly, we’ve never done well there

It is only sport, you don't have to like it.

I'm not a week in, week out, every game sort of person myself. So am willing to accept that not everyone will like it.

I'm a bit like that with opera, I've given it a try, but doesn't do it for me (I like a ballet though).

The only exception is if my home nation, Scotland, is playing at Murrayfield, that's all I'll watch!

No I haven't and I wouldn't. I despise rugby to the core of my being having been forced to play it for 10 years at private school. It was basically violence with some rules and I was regularly injured but was forced to play it. I walked off the pitch once and went home in protest. I eventually refused to even go out on the pitch and said they could expel me if they wanted to. I want absolutely nothing to do with it ever again. Luke

Sorry to hear that.

I think it's a good thing to get kids to try as many different things as possible, you never know when they are going to find the activity that they will be passionate about for the rest of their lives.

But when they clearly have not an iota of interest what on earth is the point of forcing them? Obviously it's not the sports fault, but that school sounds bloody awful.

I would never be converted.

I love most sports. I am a season ticket holder for a football team.

I have tried to like rugby but i find it boring, i also dislike how rugby fans, when they find out i love football, do the arguing about how rugby is much better than football.

I won't ever watch or listen to rugby again

Cant stand watching union far too stop start, rugby league is a far better watch, along with boxing its the most demanding sport there is, which is the appeal.
