Sexy I know…

But anyway, I’m obsessed. Have you seen how much food gets written off by supermarkets every single day?!?! It’s bloody bonkers.

So do you collect or request from any?

Have you looked into them?

Have you bought mystery bags and have amazing hauls of baked goods???

I’ve not bought a loaf of bread in over 6 months. Tell me about your wins.

Took me a while to take the plunge but I’ve made some ace friends in the process!

Yeah I’ve used them. Usually when I’m feeling too lazy to cook… it’s a mixed bag (no pun intended).

I’ve once had around 80 pieces of sushi from a high end restaurant. Though that in itself was a waste because there’s no way I could eat it all.

And another time when collecting at a cafe I was given a potato… literally a single potato lol.

I haven’t used them in a while because the novelty wore off, and on my most recent occasion I actually felt a little embarrassed because the person collecting in front of me seemed to be genuinely facing hardship. I don’t really need to save the cash so figured best to leave those “rescues” to people who really need it

I try to use them often to buy hot food from cafes/restaurants — usually at the end of the breakfast, lunch, or dinner — which I then give to those sleeping rough. Leon probably has the best mystery bags with at least four items: a combination of rice boxes, wraps, burgers and at times bakery items too. It’s never more than £5.

Can I get a hotpot on the app?

That’s a lovely idea. The app I collect for is free for all but limited to certain companies that sign up. Though it’s primarily aimed at saving waste it’s something we tell all our homeless clients about. It’s scary how much food gets thrown.

Rotherhithe

I use too good to go every now and then but it’s never been “great” - there seem to be a few good options around tower bridge in the morning where hotels prepare breakfast mystery bags, but can’t really leave the office for that at those times

Which app are you using? I’ve only used TooGoodToGo. It literally has every chain coffee shop, hotel, and fast food restaurant, as well as independent restaurants/cafes and supermarkets from Morrisson’s to M&S. (at least in London)

Olio.. it’s Tesco, Iceland, pret, boots and one stops and I think Asda have signed up now. Everything is collected and distributed free. We can literally get given car/van loads of food.

It’s defo worth looking into. Can be really fun. Some apps are a lucky dip but olio you request individual items off local collectors
