Reports from America which for some odd reason starts trends that reach the UK are cracking down on thieves in stores. One of the biggest chains had closed stores because of a pandemic of shoplifting and attacks on employees. The latest tactick is to spot potential thieves and block them electronically from using self checkouts tills. They disable them secretly and force shoppers to use the tills manned by ladies. Their shopping is then scanned and they pay the correct bill but has resulted in many confrontations. Will this spread to the UK? They are already installing barriers to stop you leaving without a receipt. What's going on here guys it's all over the news

- oh it’s all getting a bit daft now. I noticed the other week that all the trollies & shopping baskets in my local Tesco have security tags on.

- and being done to make shopping trips as stressful as possible, to ‘force’ people to shop online IMO which I actually wouldn’t mind but the option to do both would be good

I just went in a store in Exeter where a guy with sunglasses was looking over clothes etc but seemed very interested in what i had and others had he was there before me and still there when i left he didn't try anything on and so stood out as unusual so it prompted me asking him "do you work for such and such?" to which he replied "no", the cashier also although friendly took about 20 minutes to find the security tag and charged me 10p for a PAPER bag i mean whats the world coming to, also my £130 spend in cash had to be checked independently, sheeeesh

Come to think of it (I only use the hand baskets currently )they have the pound system still on trollies I think but yep alarms threaded through the bottom of the baskets along with barrier entrance (Tesco, Bulwell Notts) loads of others across Nottingham the same. Going shopping’s becoming like attempting an assault course

Yes agreed but this company never charged for paper bags prior to this visit

Shop leave the area

Certain groups blame the system for why they’re town has much less jobs, no shops food desert etc

Working in retail is like an assault course atm. And only getting worse now it’s Christmas season

Here's an idea. It's a bit revolutionary, but go with it a bit and then see what you think.

Have a rown of shops in the High street

like ..... butchers, bakers, dairy, green grocery etc ... The shop is open. There is counter with servers behind the counter. You say , half a pound of marg mate and two pints of milk.. The person gets your shit. You give the person money.

Just a thought.

I mean ... what did people think the next logical step was when all the shops got mushed into one .... then they took away the till operatives and employed the public ?

Surely if we work there we should be able to say if it's okay to take our bonues in goods ...

No windows and you were served though a hatch but not before you gave your money. If shops started returning then shoplifting would be stopped overnight. 4 pints of milk in a plastic bottle.

A store made salad in a plastic tub.

Margarine in a plastic tub.

Tomato ketchup in a plastic bottle.

a bottle of mayo in a plastic bottle.

A pound of mince in a plastic container.

And they won't give me a plastic carrier bag to take it home in because it's bad for the enviroment ??

I’ve seen a store with facial recognition CCTV. If a known shoplifter walks in, it sends an alert to the staff phones

I thought that was for plastic bags only. Some retailers are charging for paper bags

Never mind the US there is a pandemic of shoplifting and confrontations with staff close to home in Essex. And never mind the tills at the big supermarkets, it is the smaller convenience stores, small supermarkets and petrol stations that are targeted. It is very blatant and staff can't do much even if they spot.

I think the trouble is, when a supermarket first opens, the local shops you describe go out of business as nearly everyone prefers to shop in the mushed place. Market forces dictated by the customer and all that.
