I like Arch Climbing Wall. They have several locations. They’re pretty good for beginners as they’ll guide you and look after you to help with proper form, etc.

There’s also The Climbing Hangar.

The Font Borough allows on off climbing and do free instro sessions once a month or so.

If you look on Reddit, there’s an active London Bouldering group that will have more advice.

"Would be great if anyone out there knows nice social events with the clubs? "

Look up Bermondsey Boulders Group. They do loads of social events mostly with the Arch. Because of their support the Arch offers daily new climbers improvements classes for free. They also do £5 sessions for new climbers. The BBG put on loads of social events to welcome new climbers and to improve socialising within the bouldering community. They are a lovely group across a variety of skills and ages. They often do drinks and other events after climbs too.

When I was at uni the _only_ climbing wall in London was at Mile End - looks like there is loads more choice now.

My advice however would be forget the indoor stuff and go climb on some proper rock - get yourself to the Peaks or North Wales and enjoy the original.

A field somewhere

I have over 40 years climbing and bouldering experience, and much prefer outdoors, but I'm luck with my location as there's so much bouldering within an hour that it can take a lifetime to get through it all.

I haven't done much bouldering down that way as I was usually building them rather than using them as a paying customer.

However, there are loads in London. Just about every wall has a bouldering facility.

Outdoors, the grit is where its at this time of year so that means a trip to the peak district, or if you really want to get spanked head to any of the Yorkshire bouldering venues.

You can find a comprehensive list on UKClimbing . Com or on the Rockfax website. Also check out UK Bouldering . Com which has a very active community.

Here and there

I'm far too clumsy for this. In an ideal world I'd love to scramble on big rocks and take those amazing pictures my friends do, sat astride a huge rock with a backdrop of a beautiful valley.

I'd be in A&E with my leg in plaster and a busted nose

Arch North in burnt oak is pretty good, and yonder, if you're more NE is cool, they have a bar, although I'm mot sure that's wise

I know these well, and it’s almost a different sport to the indoor routes.

Agree that it’s a lot of fun and a friendly and inclusive crowd. Plus the “greats” will happily chat and climb alongside you.
