"Do you mean Covid has left you too ill to go to the gym, OP? Sorry to hear that if it has. If not, lots of us lost our flow in lockdowns, but just got to get back in the swing if you want to. It's small steps: you won't get back to the same pre-Covid level immediately, but just set small, achievable goals and you'll soon rebuild the habit." I was ill for about 6 months afterwards. I’m ok now but just lacking something still. Which has stopped me getting back to the gym, if that makes sense

"Why call it a dad bod? It's such a daft term in my eyes! There are some fit men on here who claim to have one too - such a call for sympathy where absolutely non is warranted imo! If you gave birth to kids and still had it after actually doing any housework you can call it a 'dad bod' imo lol. Most men just get lazy then blame having kids! It's like 'dad joke' or 'dad dancing' to me, almost a form of 'giving up'. Burn some rubber guys! Or something. pt" I think it’s quite a funny term lol

It is difficult once you to have children's to give tone but not impossible. I made excuses and then feel out of the habit and eventually have just become lazy. Luckily I was in reasonable shape before hand so I'm no where near fat bit I'm not in the shape I was in before.

Sorry you were so unwell, and I'm obviously not saying you should ignore any medical advice. But if there's no physical reason not to, you just need to go! Take small steps, plan, don't over exert yourself, but just showing up will quickly build momentum. The first session is the hardest. Good luck!

Do you go through child birth causing changes to your body? No. The term "dad bod" is basically just average, someone that doesn't work out. It has nothing to do with being a dad.

" Is it not called so because when you become a dad (in some cases) you potentially have less time to train and/or less motivation due to your time being filled with fatherhood…. So people decided (as in many cases) that it required a label …. So they deemed the ‘dad bod’ title because you once had a better body? And now that you’re a dad you don’t? I don’t think people labelled it because of physical changes incurred by actual labour / childbirth ? I realise non dads are given this label too…. But was that by default from the originality of the term ?

"Before I caught Covid I was going to the gym 3/4 times a week and walking 10k a day. But after Covid and long covid I haven’t been able to back to the gym, however I still try and walk 10k daily. So I really do have a dad bod now " I am a member of the same club. I haven't put on a lot of weight, but I notice it! Let's just get back into our routines. Although, I am drinking wine, while listening to Talk Talk (yes, it is a great album), and I have hardly the house today.

" Hey just wanted to add to the above. Testosterone is the hormone that makes a man a man but research has shown that when a man becomes a father for the first time, his testosterone levels drop and they never return to pre-birth levels (Gettler et al, 2011). Finding this certainly explains a small part of the puzzle, it absolutely doesn't make getting back in shape is impossible but you certainly need to work harder and smarter after kids.

No, read it. You are making the jump from testosterone to fitness surely? They found in a study that young fathers who were most attached to fatherhood had testosterone levels that decreased at the highest rate (ie compared to non-fathers or less doting ones). What has that got to do with a dad bod? The study was with young 20 - 26 year-olds too. Rather than linking it to increased body weight, they actually concluded that the doting fathers end up fitter and healthier! Sorry but self-described 'dad bods' are kind-of like 'sad bods' to me lol. Don't want the pot? Stop sneaking with the Snickers and lose some weight you blubber pots lol. pt
