Looking back it certainly had more variety then most other decades.

Hip Hop, Electro, Synth, Goth, House, Trance, Heavy Metal, Indie, New Wave, Ska all were either created in the 80's or had their height of popularity during the 80's.

I started the decade as a skinhead listening to ska , oi and punk in dingy pubs , and finished the decade with a ponytail dancing in fields until the sun came up.

As a singles buyer for Our Price Records in the very early 80's, I'd like to thank you all for the XR3i that I bought and consequently wrapped round a tree 2 months later

The 80's were great for quirky stuff - Classix Nouveau, Blancmange, Philip Jap and so many more weirdos who are now bald chip-shop owners

Me too, I liked the 80s rock scene, the above plus Kiss and Def Lepard. I liked all that big hair and spandex, its why I'm into Steel Panther now.

I was mainly a fan of alternative music though rather than the pop type music. My fave artist was Marc Almond, but I liked Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, didn't mind a bit of Duran Duran here and there, my fave tune of there's is The Chauffeur, loved Depeche Mode, Japan, The Cure (until they did the ridiculous Love Cats), Siouxsie, and Devo, they were fab

Like all decades, there was the good and the bad. The 80s was great for indie and alternative music inspired by late 70s punk and new wave. It was pretty rubbish for rock until grunge came about to blow away all the hairspray and curls. And it was pretty dire for dance music, thanks to SAW, until the rave scene started taking off unless, like me, you were dancing to New Order, Sisters of Mercy, Iggy Pop, Tears for Fears, The Fall, Soft Cell, Banshees, etc.

Unfortunately for every Human League, Heaven 17, OMD or ABC at Rewind, you will get a Level 42, Starship, Rick Astley, Cutting Crew or Mike and the Mechanics.

"Like all decades, there was the good and the bad.

Unfortunately for every Human League, Heaven 17, OMD or ABC at Rewind, you will get a Level 42, Starship, Rick Astley, Cutting Crew or Mike and the Mechanics."

I will have you know that Starship and Rick were brilliant last year!!!

xx

"Anyone else love their 80s music?!! Or is it just sad, lonely me?!!

I went to the Rewind festival at Henley last year and tickets booked for this year already! It was Fabaroony!!

Who are/were your favourites?

xx"

Absolutely hate it, what a dreadful decade. I'm just so glad I never changed my dress sense and don't have to look back at embarrassing old photos from back then

"love it

although i love music from the nineties seventies and some from the sixties

all the music from the past five or six years has been shit "

make that the last 20 yrs most music from 1990 onwards is not music at all just a terrible noise from ppl that can neither sing a note or play a decent tune

"Wanted to see secret affair in the 80s got to see them 2 years ago at Kelso scooter rally was a real blast from the past.

Would loved to have seen the lambrettas. The Merton parkas purple hearts but never got the chance "

Purple Hearts are still going, Bob still looks about 20 too lol. Although the ska/mod revival stuff listed on here is more late seventies than crappy eighties music I would say

yeah as said already of course like any decade there was good and bad. I started the 80s on a diet of Jam, Secret Affair, Chords, etc as well as Buzzcocks, Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers and the like - then got more into the alternative stuff too. I doubt the line-up at Rewind can compare with the Futurama festivals I went to - saw people like New Order, Cult, Nico, Durutti Column, Damned, Blancmange, Icicle Works, Sex Gang Children, Killing Joke. Also remember some great gigs like The Fall, Chameleons 'at home' in Middleton, first Jesus & Mary Chain tour, Black Flag Newtown Neurotics and Hagar the Womb at Leeds Bierkeller... happy days

Pontins in Southport, 15th March. Adults 1980s weekend, some 'real' some 'tribute acts'. Think they do one down south too!
