Utility stamps?

Way before direct debits. I'd go weekly to buy telephone, electricity, gas stamps, oh yeah and TV licence. Great way to budget.

They were going out of fashion so to speak by the time I married and bill paying. I remember my mother buying them and collecting green shield stamps. I remember trotting to the bank every month and paying my mortgage in cash.

I remember going to the rent office. By the time I had a mortgage, it was DD only.

We had a pre-paid electricity meter in Botswana. Used to go and buy electricity for the month at the local spaza shop. Lol

I can remember getting paid incash for a little hatch in the canteen at work on Thursday lunchtime. You queued up & got a little envelope with the notes and coins.

Then you went outside and a steady stream of wife’s turned up to collect it & the men were hiding money in their socks.

I was just 16 This has serious impact on my views of marriage
