In my own little world

Just back from a night out with my clients on our monthly all you can eat night. Curry I'd go for though you need to be careful with rice, not sure about Chinese unless the restaurant is busy and the food is refreshed regularly

Not keen myself; for one they encourage overeating at times when people are grappling with the issue and the other reason is that in my mind there has to be a compromise re the quality of food if you allow people to eat as much as they like.

O o O oo

We went to a Sunday lunch one once...never again....the sight of other peoples plates piled so high they had trouble carrying them made me feel ill.

Surely people can't eat that much so it must get wasted.

The land of grey peas and bacon

I avoid as you can never eat the amount you pay... for example you pay on average £18.00 of massed produced food.. you are never going to eat £18.00 worth.. Not saying you eat the correct amount in any eatery...

I went to one in Brum and it was a Brazilian one.. I thought it was good as it was not the average slop you get in the chain AYCE places...

I've been to them on several occasions with various people, the food can be variable depending where you go and some of my companions made me feel ashamed with the race to fill their plates numerous times. I have been to a couple of very good ones where you may order what you wish for a set price.

First time I went to one was in America, a couple (about 25 stone each) kept going to the bar and filled their table with food & drinks. There was literally no more room on the table. Scoffed the lot

Mind you, I put a stone and a half on while I was there

I think it is almost impossible not to gain weight when in the US, the portions are so much bigger!

Don't go to them my sister used to work in one and its all very cheap food bought at cost.

She has said the stock isn't very fresh.

I would rather pay a little more for a better quality meal.

The one advantage that I have found with AYCE is it is possible to try a little bit of severals dishes to find something you like whereas with your standard takeaway you have to get a full size serving just to be able to taste it......extremely wasteful especially if you find you don't like it after all

little house on the praire

There is a very nice chinese one in Leicester, ive only ever been in the day when the prices are also cheaper, its good if you just want to sit and talk and nibble away. Not sure what it is likeon an evening.

I do like a toby carvery, cheap and cheerful but ive never been up for seconds as you dont realize how much meat they put on your plate as your veg cover it, i dont go often. Apart from those two never really been to one

My gym Christmas meet normally starts at cosmos, a oriental all you can eat. We normally send the small guys in first, as when the bigger guys walk in they start crying.

I have been to a few of them over the years, I don't mind them as you can pace yourself and eat what you wnat as opposed to having to mess about with making sure that the foods I can't eat are removed from a dish.

Been to a couple of chinese and indian, all you can eat buffets.

My friends and I often take all the kids as everyone can try different bits and pieces without any waste. Plus I find I tend to eat less at them than I would with a set meal.

Bad enough when it's the stuff left in the dishes under the lamps.

I wonder what befalls the stuff left uneaten on the plates?

if you get special offers they can be good - we have a toby carvery not too far away from us where its a good as home cooked for not much more and is a treat but i agree with seeing a piled high plate makes me feel yukky - dont see the point as you can return for more everything bar the meat - red hot world buffet is wonderful - go lunchtime and is almost half the price - although some of the foods arent available there is more than enough and yes good to try new dishes - i dont mind a chinese buffet as an hour later you dont feel full - saying all that we havent been out for anything like that for about 6 mnths maybe longer

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

If I am with a large crowd, lots of children or a certain man who could put Homer to shame and the food is fresh and good quality then yes.

I prefer to be with a handful of people and when we just order loads of starters and share. It feels like all you can eat and not too much of anything.

Southend

If going to the states they are brilliant Ponderosa in Florida as much as you can at at breakfast for $3.99. Evening meals from $9.99 including cooked to order steaks.

Some of the ones over here can be a bit hit and miss but you get waht you pay for. Dont expect steak and scallopps for £5 per head

We've tried a few in the past but have come to the conclusion they're not for us. Firstly we just don't have the appetites to eat lots of food in one sitting. Secondly, we invariably found ourselves sat next to some greedy chuffer with a plate stacked so high with food it looks like an attempt to model Mount Everest. Not a pleasant dining experience

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

"What's you opinion on these kind of restaurants... Do you visit them or avoid

I've never been to one"

I've been to a few. Some people I have been with tend to get irritated with me as I usually just have a small starter, then go back for a main (not too much - I hate eating tons at once as it makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable) and sometimes maybe a small dessert - but not always. They seem to think that, as it is all you can eat, then you should just cram in as much as you can and often have encouraged me to eat, eat, eat which I find really annoying. I want to eat as much as I want not what they think I should.

When I was huge I loved them. Probably why I was huge.

I avoid them now. I also avoid places where they give massive portions as it just seems a total waste as I don't eat that much in one sitting.
