Inspired by Brucey's "cute" thread.

Going over how I and others view the word cute, and the intent and context behind it's use in situations.

Cute and Nice have a bad reputation for being safe and "meh" words to some people. Not being extreme words they fit varying places within the spectrum of compliments. Sometimes used to soften the blow of a rejection.

Then on the other end of the spectrum you have words that can be over the top, extreme and can be seen as disingenuous.

Beautiful, gorgeous, sexy stunning, amazing.

Some people like the OTT extreme compliments, other despise them.

So if some view cute as a nice rejection or borderline insult/not a compliment and others view extremes like beautiful as eyeroll/unsettling.

So when it comes to compliments, where do you sit on the word use?

This applies more to strangers/acquaintances than those you are familiar with - familiarity has its own rules and often an insult (cunt) can be the highest form of affection. But even familiarity can have certain words being out of bounds and being disliked.

I tend to give the Mr an affectionate cunt every so often, he cas a cute bum, and is hot! There probably the compliments I give him.

Others it'll depend if I'm complementing their outfit, figure, hair, general appearance but I guess it's usually stunning, amazing, beautiful, handsome I can't think of any more I use.

I just take a risk, make it up and see what happens. If she’s cute I tell her, if she’s gorgeous I tell her, if she’s alright I tell her

How about 'interesting'? Somewhat enigmatic!

Interesting yes. Inspirational, endearing, loveable, filthy, I dint overthink it.

Enigmatic isn’t really a word I use.

I don’t either. I really really don’t. People I know it’s different but not strangers.

Hell

I'm quite short so I think I'm just automatically put in the cute category. I don't care either way about it.

Tbh compliments about my appearance are nice but they never mean that much to me. I wouldn't be won over just because someone threw the correct adjectives at me

You are alright. And unorthodox. Not scary though.

Carlisle usually

Strangers giving me compliments are likely to get an "OK" or an "I know."

Occasionally I'll say thanks if I think they might mean it or just feel like adhering to the social norms even though I have no actual gratitude. I'd much rather hear something actually interesting about them than a compliment on my appearance.

I don't have any stake in their opinions. Whether they mean it or are just saying it to try and get in my pants is irrelevant, as is whether it's a soft or extreme version. It's just pointless noise until I value their opinions, which isn't a stage many people reach with me.

I prefer people on places such as here who avoid the use of any kind of compliment as an opener
