Misogynistic threads

Is it just me (probably is) but I seem to be observing an increasing number of threads that are quite misogynistic. Reducing women in effect to an object to be commented on with very little thought to how that might affect women in general. I get that this community is sex oriented but that still doesn't excuse the 70's attitudes that seem to be becoming prevelent.

Perhaps it's because of large disparity in numbers between men and women on here or perhaps the age demographic being older and therefore stuck with attitudes of several decades ago, or perhaps a rise in the laddish culture promoted by some 'celeb types'. I'm sure there's a research paper here maybe even a PhD thesis.

Alternatively I'm just too sensitive, the irony that I recently commented on one of these threads hasn't escaped me and it's a constant battle of trying not to engage in these conversations (I'll keep my thoughts to myself - mostly)

Anyway I've rambled enough and I'm starting lose my train of thought so before I say something I might later regret I'll stop

Misogyny is a viciously called out and attacked on here. Misandry is still just a casual joke

It shouldn’t be a competition. Both should be called out and challenged.

And both words are thrown around too easily.

Can't say I've noticed an increase in those threads or even individual comments across the various forums.

There will always be people who say they don't give a fuck about what others think of them but that also means they don't give a fuck about what they say when verbalising their opinions or the consequences.

That isn't gender specific either.

Misandry usually gets a pass because it's seen as as a necessary reaction to misogyny.

Those one sided tales, selective hearing and bants have a lot to answer for.

Sadly it feels as though there’s just a whole lot more hate and anger in this world. It’s not gender specific.

Sadly this used to be mostly confined to the online world, but it’s definitely taking hold in the real world now

I suggest that those of us that are capable spread a little more love and openly denigrate the worst behaviour. Just my opinion

On the whole men are more visual and physical - that's why the porn industry is so big.

Sex is seen as a function, so women are objectified.

The difference I can see is repect. If a woman is shown respect, that includes if she wants to be used as a cum slut, that it is ok. Its realising that its about her needs and wants too.

The good men on here get that and realise some of us like & love good sex.

(FYI - I am not a cum slut do please do not ask)

Saying that I agree with OP that some really terrible threads sometimes that look like from the 1970's. Just got to challenge whenever you see it on both sides if you have the energy.

I think I've noticed it both ways, but moreso with the idea of women being "entitled" which is a shame to see as if they shouldn't have autonomy over their own body.

And I have seen threads moaning about single men and the constant messages despite filters being in place for a reason and the feeling men are a hindrance to the site more than an included part of it.

All in all, it's not a fucking competition and I'd like to think it's only the vocal minority that voice the opinions above and everyone else can just get on with it.

But it is misogyny and explaining it away as 'banter' or 'laddish behaviour' does two things...

1. Makes it acceptable, not just as banter but as an actual perception of women

2. Harms men just as much as women, partly by allowing and accepting the misogyny but also it tars the perception of men as a whole (who'd have thought I'd be quoting not all men), becoming a self fulfilling prophecy... women assume that's how men perceive them as that's what 'banter' shows... eventually if you tell someone enough that they believe x about themselves, they begin to believe it.

But yes OP, like many of the views around perceived differences, they are wedge issues with people on one side or the other (race, religion, politics etc) and recently it feels like it's becoming more acceptable to air views of racism, sexism, homophobia etc...

This is a tricky one. I have found that on here it is open season on men. We can have any number of comments aimed at us, yet dare we answer any or make a criticism of women's behaviour one is instantly called a misogynist.

I've noticed men and women come in for crap - misandry and misogyny are probably equal (although it could be that good old confirmation bias).

What I have noticed is a rise in the seemingly "innocent" and "tongue in cheek" threads which peddle both, more often than not coming from someone who is hurt over perceived rejection.

However I will say that in recent years missandry and bad behaviour from some women is on the rise.

Can't say I've noticed any difference to how fab has been all along. There has always been misogyny and misandry on here one gets called out a lot more than the other.

But the easy thing I do is to avoid threads that I don't like or can't be bothered getting involved in.It makes my time on here a lot easier. I don't feel the need to educate anyone or here or lecture others. Because one I can't be bothered and two it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference anyhow.

Absolutely, but since I don't mix with the yoof of today I've only got my generation (and those close to it) for the attitude data. I'm not appointing blame to everyone but I've either become more sensitive to this kind of attitude as I've got older or it's on the rise again
