No not the weather related thing! It's cold, it's awesome get used to it.

I mean actually feeling sad. Is it something you feel often? Lucky enough to not remember the last time? Or is it a regular occurrence?

I'm pretty used to feeling angry and frustrated and basically pissed off. Thank you men. But the sadness kinda creeps up you sometimes, that's a feeling I don't like.

Today is a sad day.

How do you get out of the slump?

Please don't say wine as I don't have any and I'm a tad upset this.

I wondered in the past whether there’s something missing in me because I don’t ‘do’ sad. I just don’t.

But if that’s a problem, I don’t really want to fix it. So I stopped worrying. Stupid idea anyway.

I feel like I probably need better control of my emotions because at the minute, it seems like any little thing can be a hair trigger to me feeling like shit. Could be due to work, my social life, something on Fab but I think it ends up being a lot of small little things that happen that I can just forget about the next day.

Take my dog for a lonnng walk.

Other wise I would just dwell. It's gotten harder as I recently had a car crash and months later I still can't get back to the gym. As that was my other happy place.

I used to mask my sadness with alcohol. And however a good friend I thought Jack Daniels was to me during those times. All it did was make me worse and push those close away.

Nature, trees, lakes, fresh air, no phone signal, that's my happy times

Yeah I get waves of a feeling like sadness, but I’m

not sad about anything particular. It’s just how I’m made. The old black dog.

I make myself comfy, eat nice food, see those I’m closest to if I feel like it, get outside, spend time with the dogs, and wait for it to pass. It always does.

Hope yours passes soon OP

Big hugs to those feeling sad, I’m sure getting outdoors walking and chatting to people would help, maybe find a hobby that you enjoy, watch funny films or whatever gets you giggling, don’t rely on others to bring the happiness, you know you so go and get it, if you find something or someone triggers the sadness step away oh and maybe get your bloods checked and take some selenium, all about the self care xx

I get sad often. I struggle with MH, and the sadness, loneliness and helplessness has just became part of my daily life now tbh.

BUT, I’ve started to allow myself to embrace it. Sadness is an emotion just like any other, so instead of trying to ignore/avoid it, I let it happen and work through it. I let myself feel sad, have a cry, watch a sad film etc and eventually it just balances out.

Yes. I'm pretty much sad constantly. I do wonder if I'm always going to be this way. I can put on a front, and sure I have moments in my day where I do feel happy... but underneath there is so much sadness that feels so deep to the bone, and it hurts, and it's always there.

I rarely ever feel other negative emotions like being angry or frustrated, just sad and it's like nobody notices. I wish it would fuck off.

Acknowledging negative emotions rather than suppressing them builds resilience.

Sad? Make a journal and just write what you want, the thoughts on paper will help you break them down into what they actually are, either situations or problems, then put your phone in charge and go for a walk in nature doesn’t have to be long just get out when you get back if you have your favourite food then make it but most of all stay away from outside noise like social media and fab, reset. plan, execute, dominate the world

Op it is okay to feel our emotions. I too had a cry earlier.

Spent all day tuning in the tv.. Itv had dropped out. Still was motivational for me to carry big tv into front room and put little tv in bedroom. Was getting frustrated at no signal.. I then had a 5 in cry and thought it was good to get my frustration out. I also thought life is hard for me. I got goals to achieve and hitting a brick wall. I cried at that too op sometimes we need to cry. Hope you are okay op

Anyway,

yes I feel sad some days. A lot lately for a myriad of reasons. September holds an anniversary that's painful as fuck and it takes a while to leave my thoughts. But some days I just feel sad. I go out and drive if I can, or sleep. Or I just try and pick something that makes me happy. A treat, music, escape in a film, soak in a hot bath, the list goes on.

Be kind to yourself on your wonky days.

I just feel neutral a lot. Have my moments of laughter and happiness through the day... sometimes I think of bad things in the past that I can't change then I snap out of it.

If anything bad happens I resort to feeling numb until I'm back to normal.

But day to day life, I don't feel sad, I have my own way of staying positive.

Sadness has been a perpetual daily experience for me for 4 years. I experience joy now too, that took a while. But sadness traces within it at some point. And those that know me see it in my eyes, I see it reflected in theirs.

It's fine - I've come to accept it's just part of life for me now. There's no depression and yet I have no fear of death or drive to seek. Sometimes I think it hasn't lessened at all and I've just got used to it. I just cry. I will tonight when I get home, I can feel it. It's a day she should have been here for.

The week that she’s gone it’s more sad especially non gym nights for all my son lives with me he’s 16 now and mostly in his room while when my daughters here she’s with me the whole time as still hasn’t outgrown that so nights she gone are quite lonely I don’t miss the ex at all but do miss having a proper family

I feel sad sometimes but I think it mostly stems from burnout and loneliness. It's also very much linked to my hormones too. I've been known to cry in the car. It's sometimes good to let it all out.

I find it hard when people are nice to me when I'm sad. It makes me cry so I'm often better on my own until it passes.

"We get angry and frustrated sometimes but never really sad.

We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves.

"

That's quite a mean thing to say!

I'm sure we are all pleased that you never feel sad, good for you.

People feel sad for all kinds of reasons and a majority has absolutely nothing to do with feeling sorry for themselves and wallowing in their own pity!

I for one rarely feel very much due to medication. I haven't cried in a very long time. But today I had this cloud come over me and I actually cried, only briefly but it happened and a small piece of me was glad as I had thought that I was void of any extremes of emotion.

Thankfully it passed quite quickly. I think it was a mixture of extreme tiredness, hormones and stress. I think it could also have been partly to do with post coital dysphoria after a heavy night last night and no real after care.

Anywho, for all those sharing in the "pity party", it's the start of a new week tomorrow (yes,I know it has to start with a monday) hopefully everyone who is feeling low will have a good week.

I like to wallow in my sadness and play sad songs.

I think exacerbating the feeling helps me to get over it.

I agree and that sadness isn't self-pity.

Strangely even on happy days I can’t sleep at night without replaying all the sad hurtful times if I try and sleep thinking of nowt I’ll just lie there start replaying a sad time in my head and 99 times out of 100 before the end of the scenario playing in my head I’m fast asleep wish it wasn’t this way but been like that for many years now

Sadness is natural. Do things that bring you joy. For me that's walking, dancing, cinema (my favourite form of therapy). No emotion is something to hide away from. Allow it to move through you, rather than trying to suppress it. It just shows that you're human and that you care x

"I'm sad all the time. It's like a knot in my diaphragm. If I sit still and don't distract myself, I'm not far off tears. I'll leave it there."

It makes me sad to read this. Sending virtual hugs.

"No not the weather related thing!

*Ps hot guys might help. Especially those with pretty penises.

"

I totally get it. As much as I love being single after leaving a 22 year relationship, the only thing I (occasionally) miss is having someone to rant to. When you live alone, it's not as easy to vent those feelings, cos nobody wants to be whinging to their friends all the time if it's not something urgent, right?

If it's daytime, I get myself out of my flat & take a walk along the seafront, which helps enormously. If it's night, I may have a bloody good cry & feel better in the morning. Of the two, I prefer distraction- crying makes my eyes puffy!!

I think my penis has had more compliments that the rest of me during my years on here, which is why it's not on public show. I'm like hey there's more to me than that!

Pretty much daily for a long while. As for how to get out of it? Some days I don't. Others I just try and switch off emotionally and some days I just do whatever is necessary to sleep, whether that's a drink or two or my meds.

The reasons are many. The solutions don't appear forthcoming and of late its been one thing after another getting added to the downer pile. So it builds. Sometimes it overloads. Then it's just a case of waiting for the time it subsides enough to get on with something.

Sometimes it sneaks up on you when you least expect it, prompted by the stupidest little thing.

It's probably my most common state at the moment. People keep telling me it will pass.

I'm currently calling bullshit on that.

Yeah. I get sad loads, but I tend towards depression. I think the victorians would call it melancholy. I don’t know why, there doesn’t have to be a reason, but there are some days where everything is November

I don't feel sad often but when I do, I've learnt to just let myself feel sad and acknowledge it, it helps me understand it more and process better without it turning into a more intense emotion such as anger or resenment.

North West…

I suppose I’ve felt sad at ‘usual’ times of life rather than moods or long term feeling that way. I try to embrace any emotions really, let them flow and stay self-aware.

My only advice would be to try to work out what makes sadness enter life for others, then consider it for yourself - external factors are often small or unimportant but people really let them fester and steal a bit of their existence.

Social media, family or friends who are toxic, or lifestyle choices of pleasure over happiness, all sorts of things. Stay as positive as you can people, and understand sadness is normal, alongside don’t let it dominate you, if possible.

Sadness is a transient emotion. Depression isn't. If you haven't contacted a GP yet, please do so.

It will eventually but dissipation can be tortuously slow.

Don't forget drink is a depressant. If on anti-depressants, see if you can cut out alcohol altogether.

Not really. I get sad at awful things I might see on the news, my mum’s dementia breaks my heart but I soon snap myself out of it and be positive as being like that isn’t going to help me or anyone else x

I can tell the difference in my depression and sadness.

It's important to do that because, although some things help with both, there are different ways of dealing with them.

Right behind you…. Boo

I did a resilience course during covid (you know those desperate things you did to get through the day) anyway, they did make a salient point. It’s ok to be sad without it completely crippling you mentally and emotionally. There might be nothing you can do about the cause of the sadness. It doesn’t mean you can’t find joy and happiness in other aspects of your life at the same time.

Good point, hard to do when you're feeling low. It requires some strength to drag yourself out of the depths

I'm not a naturally sad person, but some time ago I went through a long period of intense sadness. It was born initially from grief, and so it was natural, but then it was deepened and pushed to the extreme by the wicked actions of another. I very nearly didn't escape it. The only saving grace I had was this: I knew where it came from.

Talking, support, and time have helped. There have been some significant bumps along the road, but these days there is so much in my life that makes me happy, I'm not sad any more. But I feel its echo. I don't think it will ever entirely fade.

One thing that helped, Ailsa described a landscape: A forest on the edge of a field. And in the field, a bottomless pit. She would ask me, where in this landscape was I standing? If I was in the forest, all was good. If I was in the field, that was concerning. If I was standing at the edge of the bottomless pit, that was a crisis. Being able to say how bad it was, without actually having to say it, was very helpful. It opened up a pathway to support without me having to ask for it. And in time, just being asked made me feel better. Knowing someone cares really helps. I hope you have someone too OP.

-G Xx

P.S. A pretty penis is something I can help with x
