Ishtar - the rabbit and the egg were Her symbols. Have you ever wondered how the egg and the fertile rabbit came to be synonymous with Easter?

naaa didn't think anyone would.

The Church appropriated whatever symbols and holidays they could in order to get Christianity accepted. Death and rebirth is a good universal theme.
