Freyja, Norse goddess of the Vanir, a tribe of fertility gods.

She was renowned for being sexually liberated. Her adventures include sleeping with her own brother, having sex with four dwarfs to gain the magic necklace the Brisingamen and also affairs with many of the gods and heros of Norse myth.

Lilith, a Sumerian deamoness/goddess who seduced men and then strangled them with her hair. She was known to have very hairy legs and would try to hide them from view.

The Church appropriated whatever symbols and holidays they could in order to get Christianity accepted. Death and rebirth is a good universal theme.
