Has Prep been responsible for increase in STIs?

Strong possibility The ignorance of not worrying about getting HIV has made people think bareback sex is more attractive. I believe this has caused an increase in many other STIs. And if we are not careful some new bug will come along that will be harder to cure. Biological mutation and evolvement.

Here's one example, many bacteria now have become antibiotic-resistant. That's the first stage of evolution and Mutation. Antibiotics can not kill them, they now have the time to mutate and become something stronger and more dangerous.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I don't think it's particularly anything to do with that, I think it is purely that the lowered cases of STIs were as a result of a lot of media attention on protected sex, and there is a lot less of that now, meaning cases have risen.

Do you have any data on it OP? It’s an interesting thought but I wouldn’t think it’s necessarily true.

This is not as a result of people using things like Prep, and turning a blind eye to infections. Antibiotic-resistance bacteria have come to be because of patients inability to follow instructions mostly. Either the misuse of antibiotics - stopping them before you’re meant to, not taking them as prescribed, or using them for everything little thing is what’s causing antibiotic resistance bacterium to proliferate.

I expect after the pandemic more people aware of their personal health, as search going to get tested for STD, which is why the numbers have gone up.

It's been highlighted how easy it is to get tested.

There are potential influences but it's too easy to jump on a bandwagon, then demonise and scapegoat others

Antibiotic resistance isn't due to Prep, so don't conflate separate things

STI rates are increasing across the board, not just MSM communities. I think it's primarily due a to a lack of sexual health resources, planning and investment. Where we are, it used to be relatively quick and easy to get checked out, whereas now it's at least 4-6 weeks from ordering the tests (forget trying to get an appointment!) to results.

Testing rates are currently lower than pre-Covid...

Not quite seeing the link between Prep and antibiotic resistant STIs here. If you could clearly state your hypothesis and data, that'd be great.

If testing has gone down how do they know the numbers have gone up? After all for 80% of people don't show any symptoms for chlamydia or gonorrher.

That's not quite right...

Approx. 50% of men and 70% of women can experience asymptomatic chlamydia.

Whereas only 10% of men and 50% of women experience asymptomatic gonorrhea.
