Slice in half through the root, then leavening the root intact on each half slice or chop... works for me

Keep your onions in the fridge so that they are cold before preparing them.

This slowes down the activation of the vapor that irritates your eyes.

When you are preparing the onions, run your hands under cold water as soon as your eyes start to sting. This will remove the enzymes from your hands before your warm hands vaporize them and irritate your eyes further.
