Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Have a week off work and am taking time to organise the house after my move. During breaks of unpacking boxes, hoovering and steam cleaning am looking at the television occasionally. Just endless mind-numbing rot! Loads of repeats, ancient films and home improvement/property shows.

Yes thank you. Loving it though it takes some getting used to living in a house after being in a flat for 17 years!!

I find it upsetting that he yells at all those poor dysfunctional people. I cannot bear to watch it.

I'm going to be off for around the next six months

Am considering running a book on how many IQ points have melted out my ears as a result of daytime tv by the time I'm fit to work again!

I tried to watch some daytime TV last week. Talk about drivel!

Luckily I had a whole series of shows like homeland to catch up on and some of the folk in chat to pass the time.

Even my son's cartoon channels were more bearable than 'Kyle etc

...cartoons are more my level too

It's the adverts from all the leaching financial companies that get my goat. Claim for this, claim for that, dodgy loans, save 2p a month for loved ones etc., its all pretty sad

Lots of cable channels so you have options though you won't find many new programs on because of the low advertising revenues of day time tv as the only people watching are single parents, shift works, the unemployed and the odd person with the day off.

I love day time tv!

Homes under the hammer, bailiffs are coming, saints and scroungers, undercover boss, Judge Judy...love it!

Oooh, oooh, and remastered Hawaii Five-o and Star Trek, beats racing from Uttoxeter that used to be the only offering!

I'm a personal injury specialist who has days off...don't think I'm odd though!

Daytime TV is scheduled for the demographic who stay at home watching the TV all day or much of it. For all the deviants there is the tinterweb to log into and peruse profiles and play guess the body part.

I have not watched telly for three years now. I only had a telly in my bedroom, and one evening it went bang and stopped working. Now I listern to Radion 4 and Radio 4 extra.

I'll admit it was odd for the first week or two, but now I think its the best thing I've done, as listerning to the Radio, makes you use your immagination, about, the location and settings of plays, and dramas, and there are not the constant interuptions of adverts, before the adverts. No repeats, and no Jeremy Kyle!

You know I could do without TV quite easily - and you are right about listening to a program on radio does make you use your senses ina more active way!

Even Radio 4 fucks up sometimes, especially the Woman's Hour Top 100 Power List.

That said, R4 alone is worth the licence fee.

Oh yes. radio 4 and a whole bunch more.

Where it gets iffy is post 17.00 when the Freeview (ie good reception) channels are killed and given to BBC Alba television - which is shite.

Pure, unmitigated shite.

Relax. It's an old argument.

BBC Alba audience figures were down so a HUGE (ie silly) sum of dosh was 'invested' in buying the rights to show an almost live footall match every Saturday.

Rseult? BBC Alba audiences up. Football attendances down.

Friend of mine listens to Radio 4 through her television. I've never got in to it - I'd rather read.

I have the box on constantly (annoying, I know) but actually am generally not watching it! It's just kind of in the background.
