I think you’d only know if you had an outbreak? You’d feel lethargic and fluey and then the spots would appear.

I've been tested twice.. But it's hard to pinpoint without standard symptoms

The test cannot be done if you do not have visible blisters or sores.

Symptoms might not appear for weeks or even years after you're infected with the herpes virus.

You are obviously quite naturally very worried but if you have no symptoms you are probably worrying over nothing especially as you also tested. If you ever have any symptoms, get tested straight away. As others said itvis one of those things that even if you have it, you may never have any symptoms. I am not a expert but I believe you can only pass it on if you actually have symptoms. Sorry for your worry.

Without an outbreak, you’d never know. A very high percentage of the adult population carry this virus without ever showing any symptoms.

They don't standard test for herpes. Unless you have an active lesion

Lots of people get cold sores (herpes) in all sorts of places from head to toe. The generic name of cold sore is because they are sore. If you have had a weeping sore that has been tested and come back negative for either strain of herpes HSV1 or HSV2 then you don’t have it.

They don't standard test for herpes. Unless you have an active lesion "

Then unless you’ve had an active lesion tested, you’ll never actually know if you have it. People can carry the inactive virus for decades without their first active outbreak so either stop having physical contact with anyone ever again (condoms/dental dams won’t protect you 100% as they come from skin to skin contact, unless you wear a full body suit one). Or carry on with life and don’t worry about it. Easy.

Around 70% of the adult population in the UK have herpes. This is usually HSV1 which is what around 65% of people have and usually pops up as oral coldsores. However HSV1 can affect the genitals too if passed on by someone who is shedding through oral sex. Around 20% of the population has HSV2 which more commonly affects the genitals. So...... Out of the 38,892 people online on fab (at the time of typing this) 27,000 of you will have herpes.

Also most sexual health testing doesn't test for it. You mostly get tested by having a swab of the infected area sent off for testing. Some people who carry the virus only shed once, a few times a year, a couple of times in their life time or never at all.

I have a limited immune system... Any additional virus is a worry... Anyways sure it's fine

Plus you can only be tested if you have blisters present as it's done with a vital swab which they wipe on the blisters. A first outbreak is often very painful and you may have other symptoms such as flu like symptoms and swollen lymph nodes. You may only ever have 1 outbreak or you may be someone that has regular outbreaks and needs to take suppression.

And no I dont have this knowledge because I have it - not that I'm aware of anyway
