Floor tiling advice please

Hi,

I’ve had such a range prices for a floor tiling job I need doing! I’m going to try to see examples of their work to help me choose the right person for the job.

Just wondered if anyone in the trade on here could double check one of them for me please.

The guy uses the round levelling kit and not the wedge level system. Not seen many use it. He wants to use tilemaster Rapid Setaflex Grey S1 adhesive.

The tiles are 600 x 900 stone effect porcelains and they are going on my hall and kitchen floor.

If he uses grey adhesive there’s a chance that it could show through the tiles so should be using white with porcelain

No he should use a Standard set adhesive and apply the adhesive to both the tile and the floor to unsure there is a Complete bed of adhesive between the tiles and the floor there SHOULDN'T be a hollow sound on any part of tile . Other wise if you drop some thing like a bottle of beer on the tile it could crack it or punch a hole in it.

Thanks. I asked if he back buttered the tile and he said no because he pushes it down enough to get 100% coverage. He did say there would be no hollows and would prove it by hitting a hammer against it to show it won’t break. He’s got years of experience but wanted to check some of this answers.

With a tile that big unless unless the floor is perfectly flat hecwonr be able to push the tile down fully and bring it back up to level it with out back buttering it. I have been tiling for years .

It was professionally screeded so it’s incredibly flat, incredibly so. He’s also said he hit a tile to demonstrate it. Are you doubtful about him then?

He would want to using a very drop serrated trowel .

Tell him you will be testing the tiles for hollow sounding patches and if there are any you will insist on the tiles being replaced at his expense . If he is happy with that then go with him .

Haha… thanks. You’d also insist on him using white adhesive? Not sure why he’s specified that stuff. For a guy that says he’s registered with some tile association thing and has been doing it 30 years it sounds like there’s a few amateur signs from what you’re saying.
