Nightly worries

Evening

I don't sleep well, never have. I worry a lot and night time makes it worse.

What kind of worries or thoughts keep you awake?

Mine can jump from dying to what I will make for tea tomorrow

Girl, ruminating will drain you!

Have you tried mindfulness? You probably have but it's very underrated, especially for sleep x

I'm 32, been in hospitality since 18 and hate the trade. Recurring thought is what do I want to do, how do I achieve it. Spent so much time working for targets that weren't mine, now I've no idea what I want to do

Well you obviously know what you don't want to do, so that's a good start. Find something that you have an interest in and take it from there

I'm the same, since I was young iv always been a really bad sleeper, had some major life events that have left me with alot of anxiety, at night I have an issue were I can't shut down my thoughts, they race from the moment I wake to the moment i get abit of shut eye. The annoying thing is that I'm that usta my thoughts and the speed they go and the noise in my head that come a time I don't have that for whatever reason I start freaking out so can't seem to win haha. Last year I started counselling and that has really helped me, I still have a long way to go but every day the weight does start to feel lighter.

Sometimes a problem shared is a problem halved, our inbox is always open.

I sleep badly too, due to night terrors.

My 'children' are grown adults with families of their own, but I worry like crazy for their safety and regularly go through awful scenarios involving them and my grandchildren.

I've learned relaxation techniques and how to clear my mind, and they do usually work but my terrors still take hold now and then

I have issue sleeping as well ..my mind takes me to very dark places when the sun goes down or sometimes when it's up..

I usually try to tire myself out during the day or take sleeping pills .

At night my mind tend to relive past traumas and drown me with the what ifs scenarios .....then when I do fall asleep the dreams are worse . I sleep 3-4 hours max

Older I get the worse my sleeping pattern gets . I can fall asleep in a second but after a couple of hours seams always at 2:30 I am awake.

I'm the same, my sleep schedule is awful. I currently sleep 6-11am ish. Might have a nap at about 10pm for a couple of hours. Sometimes I'm awake for anything upto 30 hours at a time. Half the time I don't even know what I've been thinking about

It's the what if scenarios that have my mind in overdrive during the night. Sometimes I'll wake up covered in sweat and feeling as though I've screamed. For some reason the outcomes are never positive ones.

Over thinking isn't good....We play out things in our minds that 90% of the time will never happen.... Mindfulness would be an excellent idea....Also reminisce about good memories....it will bring you to a happy & content mindset

It used to be whatever was on my mind during the day. The little things where I'd overthink. I've not been kept awake by overthinking/worries for a good few weeks now.

All the time, every single night.

I overthinking everything, the daily stress, tomorrow's daily stress, stress that hasn't even happening and may not happen, everything I forgot to do, everything I need to remember to do tomorrow along with some mum guilt thrown in for good measure.

I'd love to turn that switch off before I go to bed it just doesn't happen.

You guys tried keeping a notebook and pen next to the bed? Scribble everything down that you’re worrying about before you try and sleep, helps to brain dump everything.

I’ve had awful nightmares all night but that’s because of the flu meds, something including snakes, bearded dragons, being chased and death

People I love dying suddenly, without warning.

Like the nightmare I just had. And now I can't get back to sleep. Wake up sweating, that liminal space where I know it's not real, but it takes time for my body to recover.

The ambivalent familiarity of knowing it will pass. Soothing on one hand and the awareness it will be back again on the other.

It ain't so bad once you get used to it. What sucks though is that I am out of coffee. That's just not right.

Apparently restructuring is the new redundancy.

I've been told by a colleague I'm not to worry and my job's safe. Easier said than done though, until I'm told by HR, one way or the other.

You are young enough to start a totally new careerand make a success of it too. Scan through the job vacancies online or in local newspapers, it might also be worth visiting a recruitment agency to see what's on offer.

It still amazes me the amount of people that are in similar situations, the modern pace of life and pressures of expectations seems to effect us all in different ways, sleep deprivation , overthinking, anxiety to name a few.

It’s only when somebody speaks out that you realise you not alone.

I find it extremely helpful to chat with people that understand the pain and anguish that you going through.. relate to the certain triggers… it really is “good to talk”

Hope you find a way OP to quiet your brain thoughts , lots of free helpful apps that may work for you. No harm in trying

Wish I could offer some advice but I've been a bad sleeper since childhood and still haven't figured out myself how to shut off my brain. I now have a mix of tinnitus, anxiety, random questions that I look up answers to and if I'm not thinking of anything specific there will be a song going on a loop instead so no one solution will help. The only thing I will say is sometimes when the anxiety is getting to the point where it looks like I might not sleep at all, it sometimes helps to get up and try to solve the problem I'm worry about if I can. For instance when I was planning someone's hen do, I got up in the middle of the night and wrote out all the info and timings in one document because I was worried I'd missed something. That was enough for me to then get some sleep compared to no sleep. Hope you find something that works for you.

When mine get so bad I have anxiety attacks and don't sleep I take my medication.

I'm supposed to take it every day but it makes me too tired to function.

Things that keep me awake are my children and grandchildrens' problems; my health concerns; have I done my finances correctly that month, and thinking about my mum.

In the past I've lain awake panicking that aliens will blink me out of my bed and into their craft, and am I going to have a heart attack.

I have deep breathing exercises I use now, until I have to take my medication.

I tried some videos on YouTube but the voices grated on my nerves.

Female voices and some American accents don't relax me.

Also I was taught a visualisation technique where you basically invent a good ending for your dreams and think about that before bed. And only look at good things for the hour or so before bed.

Ironically when I had meds for panic attacks they had a side effect of really vivid night terrors. Screaming and flailing about. Soon binned those off.

I worry about dying. Dying alone. Siting alone and not being found for weeks. Dying fighting for breath. Dying and not doing the things I thought was really important to me. generally this stuff all the time
