What’s your controversial opinion?

My controversial opinion, all Vaping should be banned.

Smoking I don’t mind too much because people tend to move away from others to do it, and people don’t try to argue that it isn’t bad for you.

But why is it that people who Vape seem to think that they can do it wherever and whenever they want? And why is it so fucking aggressively smelly?

At the football a guy sat next to me whips out his Vape and starts puffing huge clouds in my face, what the fuck??

In the pub, on the train, in the office, in hotels, In restaurants, everywhere there are people Vaping. Because it’s not a cigarette do people think they can do it and it doesn’t matter? Or is it an ignorance thing, are they unaware that it might not be welcome?

I personally don’t want to smell your Vanilla Blueberry or Tutti Frutti Chocolini stink.

Standing indoors effectively smelling someone else’s breath doesn’t do it for me.

I was driving down the road and the car in front was Vaping with the window open and it was all I could smell, that’s how strong it is.

Rant over and I feel marginally better.

Post your controversial opinion below!

Also, there’s something a bit soft about a grown adult puffing on Lemon and Lime flavoured stick. Just have a fag if you want, don’t fanny about .

That doesn't sound too controversial.

My controversial opinion would be to ban cars from all urban centres but to legalise electric scooters.

Also, why does everyone need an electric scooter. What’s wrong with push bikes?

Listen pal

I grew up with smoking, it was everywhere. My gran used to smoke whilst feeding me and winding me. Pubs, buses, planes, workplaces. Hell my primary head used to chain smoke whilst giving me a bollocking.

So I started smoking at 13 and it was a quid for ten. Now it's what £13 for 20. Government jacking the price up like some shady 'this ain't no ten-bag la' dealer. Last 20 years it's felt like I may as well have leprosy.

So I quit and I vape. I hate vaping it's absolute crap. I want a ciggie everyday. I don't vape in shops etc. But I'm not walking to 200m because someone doesn't like the smell. You won. Stop kicking us when we are down. Otherwise I am going to rifter a fat one and burn up in the middle of the pub like it's 1999 again.

*Ban all fireworks, except the odd licenced event.

*On the spot fines for anyone not indicating

*Bring back a bit of social distancing so people don't breath on you when in a queue

*Stop Amazon and other delivery drivers dumping stuff wherever they want despite clear delivery instructions

*retrain all doctor reception staff and teach them to show some empathy and good manners

*stop people turning their gardens into amusement parks and behaving like they are on an all inclusive in magaluf

TBC ...

In the great scheme of human smells, I don't particularly find vapes to be that offensive in comparison, for example, to people who bathe themselves in cheap perfume/aftershave, those with bad BO, stale booze pong and sweaty garlic. Amongst others.

My controversial opinion is that people who profess to hating vapers are actually still just hating on smokers, which they see as the same thing, who seem to be one of the few groups where hatred is encouraged and allowable toward. But that's just my controversial opinion.

Which scooters? If you mean mobility scooters, they're not much cop really and they cost as much (or more) than a second hand car. I have a manual wheelchair that cost me £4500. I can't commute to work 20 miles in it. I can't do that on a mobility scooter either but even if I could, mobility scooters are designed to be left at the door, outside. They're not designed for indoor use. If I had a magic mobility scooter with a never ending battery, where do I put my manual wheelchair for when I get to work? Where do I put my child to get her to school? Her, plus her bag, reading book folder, the school bear, my work bag, my gym bag and our coats? How do we stay dry and warm in winter? How does my manual wheelchair for indoors stay dry?

A million questions. None are solved with mobility scooters or wheelchairs (electric, manual or otherwise).

Which electric scooters? Do you mean mobility scooters (where one sits down) or the e-scooters where you have to stand up?

Irrespective, neither are a proper transportation option for disabled people, unless we are talking short distances and a person able to mobilise perhaps within a shop or workplace.

I'm asking how banning motor vehicles works for the disabled people like me, who cannot mobilise without a wheelchair?

I get a bee in my bonnet because the decision makers in local councils seem to make the same leaps of "logic" and have already started banning cars or obstructing cars but before they've actually provided any reliable and accessible alternative, for those who cannot walk, cycle, e-scooter or similar.

My controversial opinion is that able bodied people should stop making decisions about transport for disabled people and should actually ask disabled people about how they are able to get from A to B and the types of journey they need to make. Disabled people should be consulted in full at all junctures and all abled bodied decision makers should be forced to use their transport "solutions" for a whole week whilst a) in a manual wheelchair; b) in an electric wheelchair, c) whilst blindfolded and with a white cane, d) whilst wearing total noise obstructing headphones to simulate deafness, e) with a guide dog in tow and f) a combination of at least two of the previous.

Only after they have successfully been able to make a series of purposeful journeys. INDEPENDENTLY, should that transport option be deemed suitable to be further tested by actual disabled people.

Controversial, no?

"My controversial opinion, all Vaping should be banned.

Mine is totally irrational

But people who wear those plastic glove things when filling up the car at a petrol station should be banned from driving.

Now this opinion does stem from waiting for someone to put them on and almost giving up at their fourth attempt. Being polite I just smiled and waved as they mouthed ‘sorry’ whilst internally blaspheming.

Actually, you know what, I stand by it

Otherwise I am going to rifter a fat one and burn up in the middle of the pub like it's 1999 again."

So you haven't heard of the new ban on smoking. Anyone born after 2009 won't be able to buy cigarettes, as it will be illegal for them to do so.

You may be taking me more seriously than I intended. I was just being 'controversial' on the theme of he original OP.

No it doesn't surprise me though. I am opposed to prohibition in general. It's people's right to decide for themselves, it's their body. If you have capacity you can make 'bad' decisions for yourself. Not my business and not the states.

Sure ban public places etc, if it may harm others. That's reasonable. That is a step too far in my opinion.

"Equal pay already exists, women wanting equal pay should equal their skills to the male counterparts rather than complain.

Mrs"

This article is from yesterday. Equal pay exists in legislation. Not in reality.

"Sheffield city council is to become the latest local authority to face a mass equal pay claim from women who have been underpaid by up to £11,000 a year, the GMB union has said.

Thousands of women will launch claims against the council on Monday over a “scandalous” job evaluation scheme that discriminates against female-dominated roles, the union claimed.

It said the council is underpaying those who work in roles such as cleaning, caring or housing allocation and that comparable male-dominated jobs have higher pay grades."

It’s in the article you posted. The difference of pay is based on the grade of the job. So a man in a grade 1 job will get paid less than a woman in a grade 3 job. And vice versa.

It just happens that cleaners (grade 1) is dominated by women and caretakers (grade 3) is dominated by men. Nothings stopping either sex from working within a higher grade

As the other poster said, rather than pull themselves up by their bootstraps and apply for a higher grade job, they’d rather claim it’s inequality.

I’d imagine being a caretaker is a harder/more skilled job than a cleaner, but why do a harder job for more pay when you can do an easier job and claim discrimination

You should read the article carefully without the emotional language and you'll see the pay differences have nothing to do with gender but rather roles. That's not discriminatory.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/sep/25/sheffield-council-faces-mass-equal-pay-claim-over-scandalous-pay-grades

Poorly reported, it’s not gender based and anyone that read into the story will know that the council based payouts happening in Birmingham and now other places aren’t based on sex, it’s just being reported that way because the media gets clicks

Unpopular opinion : most people can’t actually read and just take what the media feeds them as long as it supports their opinion

Happy to read other articles which support your opinion. Perhaps without the personal insult.

Glasgow Council is paying 8,000 WOMEN after losing an equal pay claim. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/jan/17/glasgow-council-women-workers-win-12-year-equal-pay-battle

But sure it's not about gender. "

Where in that article does it state the council lost a claim?

"Equal pay already exists, women wanting equal pay should equal their skills to the male counterparts rather than complain.

Mrs

This article is from yesterday. Equal pay exists in legislation. Not in reality.

"Sheffield city council is to become the latest local authority to face a mass equal pay claim from women who have been underpaid by up to £11,000 a year, the GMB union has said.

Thousands of women will launch claims against the council on Monday over a “scandalous” job evaluation scheme that discriminates against female-dominated roles, the union claimed.

It said the council is underpaying those who work in roles such as cleaning, caring or housing allocation and that comparable male-dominated jobs have higher pay grades."

Again, you only have to read the article to see it’s not a gender issue, it’s a job position issue, since women were free to be a refuse collector and get the same benefits as them, but chose not too

Ultimately it boils down to the same thing

“Us women (and some men) chose jobs with lower pay and lower bonuses and were upset and want more”

It’s a small detail that’s easy to miss for those that don’t read much, but these pay differences are not based on gender or sex, but job position.

The job positions are open to all gender and sex applicants. If you want to get paid more, apply to be a refuse collector instead of a cleaner

Or just wait a few years and claim discrimination

12 years. Thousands of women. But I'm sure you're absolutely right it's because they couldn't be arsed to just apply for the higher paying job. It's always going to be lazy women who just complain, not actual discrimination.

(They were already working in the jobs and the job evaluation scheme introduced by the council was inherently discriminatory but you do you!)

"Apparently just having an opinion now days is controversial "

That can be true. Different opinions expressed well can be very healthy and enlightening, inform and allow progress to be made. Dogma on the other hand just creates stalemate. Sadly even on here , just as in the world out there, there are often people with rather fanatical beliefs, misguided ideology, politically or otherwise fueled. Always intetesting though to see how people behave and/or express themeselves. There is always learning to be had.

Awesome idea ref printing reg number. Hate litter pickers.

I am all for hard labour for offenders. Give something back to the community that you have leeched off for so long. Make registration plates at the very least.

I'll take it one step further. There should be treadmills and concept 2 rowers and watt bikes for inmates to generate stored power. More pedal more TV. Not Xboxes.

Fetishisation of POC in the swingers scene is clear and obvious and has been discussed at length by POC on here.

It's not like black men fetishise white women, ever. "

Well at lest won’t happen at this event.

"I wish there were swingers events for POC (not fetish ones )

There is. No club in this country bans POC from attending any event they so choose.

If you don’t get what I mean that’s fine

You want to exclude white people?

If I'm wrong, feel free to explain what you mean.

It is an unpopular opinion

Fair enough. Don't you agree it's right for it to be controversial? I mean, it's racist.

I mean my only opinion is that it would be nice to have safe spaces (which I know is also controversial) where you aren’t going to be fetishised and generally can feel safer being who you are. But I’m in favour of safe spaces for minorities groups whether that’s queer people, women, or poc.

I don’t know if it’s racist or sexist or straughtphobic of me but I’m in favour of those spaces.

Out of pure interest

What counts as fetishisation of POC in clubs?

Would a POC only event not count as fetishisation?

I don’t really understand the topic

Not it would not.

That's surely a good thing. Maybe it's the lesser of two evils. Fetishisation is much much more controversial than racism

"Do not segregate child mølesters in prisons.

Get some rough justice.

Is this controversial? Anyone care to defend these people?

Not defend them. I certainly won't agree with "rough justice" though. That just turns other people into animals.

Because 'people' that råpe children aren't animals?"

That was indeed my point. Turns more people into animals. Don't mistake my view - I feel sick at some of the crimes I've read about. And furious.

It said the council is underpaying those who work in roles such as cleaning, caring or housing allocation and that comparable male-dominated jobs have higher pay grades."

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/sep/25/sheffield-council-faces-mass-equal-pay-claim-over-scandalous-pay-grades"

This doesn't relate to my statement and is grade based pay, if more women joined in the maintenance pay grade they'd be paid the same as their male counterparts, this article is irrelevant to what I stated it's not at all gender based.

People would rather shout equality than gain the skills and switch professions.

Equity over equality ( although I think the latter is a stepping stone to the former) pay people what they’re worth. I have no problem with a woman in the same role as me being paid more if she brings more value to the organisation and therefore worth it.

Exactly my point people should be paid on skills not gender, as the article above people in lower skilled environment wanting a higher skill wage isn't realistic.

If women want equal pay they do equal work & gain equal skills.

Gender aside I think that should also be age related.

I'm a carpenter and in the maintenance sector experience doesn't seem to count for shit.

Someone can be newly qualified and walk into a job and get the same pay as someone who's been doing it for 40 years.

Equality doesn't always mean equally in many cases it's just a tick box by an employer or industry.

I'd say ageism is more of an issue than sexism.

Different areas so I'd assume not the exact same job? Is time served (experience) a thing your profession?

However, if you say they're EXACTLY the same, then you defintely have cause for complaint. People in different gradings don't though.

If it’s truly a sex based discrimination then I’d bring it up with your employer. They’ll be quick to tell you why, or they’ll be quick to fix it because it’s illegal to pay different based on sex

However I think it’s more likely there’s multiple reasons why there’s a pay difference and none of them are based on sex. Experience, difficulty in filing that role, maybe the jobs not as similar as you expect

It might even be a simple case of don’t ask don’t get. Maybe he demanded more and got it where you chose not to demand more. Maybe he demanded more and they couldn’t afford to lose him but could afford to lose you?

Speak to your employer. The law is on your side when it comes to sex based discrimination
