Nope, not the usual question.

So when it comes to accents how do respond to them?

I can hear anger and shitty tones in some more easily than others. I think some of this comes from past experiences where the people involved were constantly angry and nasty.

Other accents I find to be calming and soothing or upbeat and happy.

So what accents do you warm to over others and do you think it's based on how emotions are expressed in those accents or past experiences with them? Or a familiarity that comes from a person or experience in your life that leaves you to associate that accent with something nicer?

Irish (both northern and republic) and any Caribbean island accents are instantly calming and soothing to me and I think that’s from a warm vibe they give and also people I’ve known with those accents.

Yorkshire and Brummie are my favourite accents. They make me feel everything.

London accents I love because they feel familiar.

And I find Spanish accents really sexy.

I hope that answers the OP. if not then lol

Den of Iniquity

There is a particular person who's soothing accent makes me calm and I could listen to her all day long and all my worries and ills would seem trivial..

And I don't mean in it in that way either btw

Worthing

Some of our American friends need to talk softer. The last office I worked in had a few visit now and again. Some (not all) had very loud 'air-raid siren' type voices.

There's a particular accent I'm not very fond of - it reminds me too much of someone and their anger.

Certain accents I warm to very easily because of family associations or because I love the joyful sing-song of their voice.

Like Italian. Bajan. Scouse. I find lots of accents very soothing potentially, it's about the voice that accompanies it more than the accent.

I do instantly warm to people who sound like me. There's someone on here who has the most delightful voice - spending time with him results in me sounding extra wanky but it's nice having that familiarity if that makes sense? There aren't many on Fab, well certainly not on the forums who sound like me, have the same accent but when someone does? It helps me relax a bit more around them. I don't have to be self conscious and can talk freely more quickly.

Irish (Southern) is my favourite So soothing. Welsh is second best, but it's maybe because I'm lusting after someone from there at the moment. I was told my accent is sexy, I'm from Eastern Europe. Don't believe it's strong, but definitely stronger when I'm nervous or angry.

Used to work with Italians. Music for ears indeed

Some accents indeed remind me of some very unpleasant people, so I wouldn't mention them.

Interesting, I am not a big fan of accent from the country of my origin. It sounds lazy and ridiculous. Embarrassing at times.

Schitts Creek

I love most accents, but American accents are my biggest weakness. The West Country accent is possibly my least favourite but I do think the tone of someone’s voice is equally as important as their accent.

I like emotional expression. I do appreciate soothing tones. However, I appreciate when the full range of feelings come through in someone's tone.

I'm not sure I have a favourite accent.

Soft Irish and West Country accents on a lady often have an almost magical, calming effect upon me.

If the owner of said accent then subsequently begins to make flirty, sexual innuendos…..well….I get blooming well aroused!

Yes, I find that I relax more easily around those who have similar accents. Not sure why that is. Maybe because people make a Big Thing of my voice/accent and I feel self conscious. I live up North and every time a shop assistant says "Gosh you have a lovely voice" or "that's not a local accent" I think I want the ground to swallow me up.

As one who has attended many courses over the years in Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne and mixed with peeps from all over the UK, we are generally told we have a lovely accent. I think in general most accents are fine until they become really 'broad' or gutteral to the point of, you've no idea what they're saying. Wether it be scouse, landan, brummie, our own etc. Two accents stand out to the point we're I could listen to all day, geordie/mackem and Yorkshire.
