Somewhere In The Ether…

Good folks: You know how it sometimes is; you’re watching a film or TV series and rather enjoying it. Great!

….but wouldn’t you just know it! It subsequently turns to smelly ordure

It could be due to lazy writing, an highly illogical plot twist or maybe an utterly crappy ending.

Please list me films and series that initially warmed you up before leaving you miserably cold, my fine folks (and don’t forget to explain why)

Game of thrones wins as it was the entire last 2 seasons that took a dive, but the final season as a whole ruined the hype.

No show has ever had such a fall from grace in such a quick way.

Lost sort of went off the rails too, I mostly continued to watch due to investment.

Poor endings included

I’ll give an example of a series that started well before nosediving faster than the Hindenburg: Heroes.

The first season was incredible.

…..but then came season 2. And 3

I had to abandon midway through the second season as it became glaringly overt that the writers had completely lost the plot.

A real shame

Anything where zombies are still going after a few weeks, since I read (and presumably already know) that natural decomposition, flies and maggots would have done away with all the flesh by this time and subsequently the menace of the everlasting zombie. It would be a few weeks hunkered down somewhere eating tinned peaches instead of all this crashing about killing the undead.

The Walking Dead would have been reduced to The Barely Crawling Dead within a few weeks at most before finally becoming The Dead Dead after that.

I really should pitch this idea to the studios

Lucy. Started off okay, had some just forgivable movie science involved. Then it got about thirty minutes from the end and it's like the director gave the writers and VFX artists a boat load of LSD, and said "go nuts". Ruined an otherwise decent film

Depending on who you ask though, zombies aren't all dead dead. Just rewired by a virus/ fungus/ voodoo who do. I recommended The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z by Max Brooks

Without doubt; the walking dead... It started good... You never knew from episode to episode who was gonna 'get it'... Then they started with their indestructable 'rambo carol' and other such bullshit and we ended up with a crossbow-man, another with a stick, someone with a sword, another with a hatchet... All a bit cartoony, stupid and shite.

Also violence is ok if it's necessary but the walking dead did violence for it's own sake and that's boring.

Yawn yawn yawn, a severed head. Yawn yawn yawn, depressing slow boring piano music, yawn yawn yawn, miserable faces, yawn yawn, everythings shite, yawn yawn yawn, a big baseball bat with something tied round it, yawn yawn yawn, a blood soaked 'ninja carol' managed to wipe out another 'army', yawn yawn yawn, another speech from Rick, yawn yawn yawn etc.

I have no idea who decided The Walking Dead needed 16 episodes a series but they had nowhere near enough interesting stuff to justify it. If they'd done 8 episodes every time it would've been a considerably better show.

True Blood: The first few series were very good with a plethora of interesting characters and storylines.

By the final two seasons however, it was sadly, abundantly pellucid that the show had run out of steam….and ideas.

An excellent point and a factor which has indeed served to harm many a show.

The Vampire Diaries being an example that immediately springs to my mind:

As I recall it comprised about 22 episodes a season which ended up being padded interminably and dragged out beyond belief.

It would have been so much better and more enjoyable in my opinion, had the makers simply have condensed matters.

First Box Set I ever bought was Lost. Absolutely gripped and as time went on I kind of realised they were making it up as they were going along. Shite ending, so many unanswered questions.

Now watching Manifest which (apart from the shite acting) is quite good and resembles Lost. I just hope it ends better and there are no unexplained polar bears.

Manifest has a very satisfactory ending. Not like Lost. Thankfully!

Somewhere In The Ether…

Sweet Girl: This Netflix own film starring Jason Momoa starts off ok but the whole film rests upon a rather contrived and frankly somewhat crass plot twist which is revealed about half way through the running time.

Suffice to say, once it is indeed revealed, any further desire to continue watching is pretty much extinguished as the films quality rapidly plummets.

Bloodlines ( on Netflix)

First season was great, with a great cast

2nd season still good but more middle of the road type drama

3rd season was like the writers forgot their homework was season 3 and had to write it the night before it was due I.
