Geostationary satellites orbit at around 22,000 miles.

This thing is moving at 5 miles a second and if it hit would cause an explosion 1000 times that of the Hiroshima Bomb.

Just as well its 17,000 miles up.

I didn't know about this, 17000 miles is very close. I a little surprised more hasn't been made of this, would help some people put a little more perspective into their lives.
