Carlisle usually

They're trying to normalise the term to make us fat fucks feel better about ourselves, obviously.

Another symptom of the woke radical left intent on destroying our society.

Obviously

Well if you do go into the shop next time, take a deep breath and don’t inhale sharply when you see they want £40 for a T-shirt with a shark on it.

The "Fat" word has been around for many years in shop names.

Fat willy's surf shack down in Cornwall has been around since 1985.

Was never an offensive thing when shops first used it i suppose.

Many words are offensive to some

Other arnt bother as in fat badger

Not like the badger going to complain .but I don't like to hear woman describing themselves as fat

But some women embrace the term .

Why don't you like women describing themselves as fat, OP? It is *just* a word, after all. Just because other people use it in a derogatory fashion doesn't mean that people shouldn't use it to describe themselves... they're often only using it as a descriptor rather than an insult.

I have concerns about those charts. When I was skinnier (I'd argue abit on the skinny side though really fit) I was consider bang on for my BMI. I don't think it's correct. It's an opinion at the end of the day. You know what's health and what isn't.

I use it sometimes matter of factly and people feel the need to respond defensively on my behalf that I'm not! If I hadn't shaved my legs for two months and declared them hairy, no one in their right mind would argue with me that they weren't! At origin, it is a descriptive word.

Indicator of what ?

Height to waist ratio is a far more accurate way to assess metabolic illness and concomitant health issues.

As for fat, I think it is a fair descriptive word. If I saw 6 blokes in the pub and one was fat, I wouldn't say "That guy over there...the one with the blondish hair, and the black shoes".

I would say "The fattest one".

People tip toe around it.

I am shaven headed...if it wasn't part of a description of me...through people projecting their issues with it...I'd be surprised and a little perplexed

It's seriously outdated and not much use. Using your own eyes is a much better guide of seeing if someone is overweight.

I’m a bit funny with the word fat. It’s always been a negative thing growing up. Used a lot to hurt your feelings as in being fat is a bad or shameful thing. Of course it’s not healthy to have excessive amounts of fat but why does it have to define our worth to a lot of people? I guess the same can be said for anyone’s physical appearance fat or not. Looks seem to define worth. Not sure if it’s relevant to the question asked now I’ve rambled.

Comparing this weeks sins with each other, then getting thrown out for oversharing my sins again. It isn't true. I haven't gone blind Linda. I digress. Why is it fat women are sexy and I'm not? There's a vast difference between those who BMI doesn't work for because they have muscle and those who use that line to point out one of its flaws when actually they know they're overweight.

The first group are almost definitely aware of where they're at with their fitness. The second group are in denial.

The flaws of BMI are well known and it's dumb to take it in isolation. Doesn't change that for the majority of people it's generally a reasonable indicator as to where you're at with your weight.

Scales are the best measure of your mass. BMI is of little value.

But mass is made up of many factors.

Of the markers for metabolic health, waist/height ratio is the simplist and most useful as a guide.

The role of visceral adipose deposits in revealing mitochondrial dysfunction is becoming more recognised and subcutaneous fat, whilst still a marker, is becoming less important.

In other words, there are healthy "fat" people and unhealthy "skinny" people.

TOFI people are at the most risk because they have no visible signs of their ill health without scans.

Yes, generally people who are over fat do have metabolic disease and would improve markers by reducing adipose tissue (subcutaneous drops along with visceral deposits) but it is not a given from appearance.

BMI though, really is a poor tool and often a hindrance in diagnosing the health of an individual. Obviously, this means all the Drs use it in the western world.

I didn't realise fat face catered for fat people (I'm a fat person so I think I'm safe to say the word).

I think you're reading a bit too much into it, after all the shops that are catered solely for "fat people" like Evans (are they still a thing?!) and Yours aren't called "Fat Evans" and "You're Fat" are they.

I really don't look too much into names, like fat willy surf shack, as mentioned before...I've always giggled at the name for using the word willy!

Fat is a valid word, its only offensive if used as an insult... but any insult is potentially offensive.

Wasn't arguing that it's the best method.

Not sure what you're trying to prove? That people should ignore the obvious unless they get a scan?!

No, just that they should ignore the BMI. As you said, people "know" where they are weight wise, but body weight isn't an indicator of much.

I am not trying to "prove" anything. Just sharing information.

Words are not offensive but the context you use them is.

Fat is a word that should be used, I am fat or was, lost three stone so far and a little to go

Fat is not healthy fat is unhealthy and will result in a shorter life span with other health problems, but if you’re happy with who you are then so be it.

Personally I do like curves and find a very curved woman attractive I love curves but it is how you feel about yourself that matters only that
