"Also, no love for Ringo? Well the famous quote about him says it all. That's a mythical quote. Nobody has ever found a recording of it and Ringo doesn't remember John saying it. I know... But it's still funny. " The quote actually came from a BBC comedy called Radio Active on 1981... and Ringo is actually a really good drummer. His playing was tasteful, interesting, and just right for the song. Cal

That the bit where he looks like an octopus auditioning to be a stunt double for Neo in The Matrix??? Hehe! The thing about these highly talented drummers like Bonham and Neal Peart and Stewart Copeland and Clem Burke and Dave Lombardo and Keith Moon etc... etc... is they also serve the song. Even as erratic as such as Moon got it still fitted. Perfectly.

"Just to annoy a drummer friend of mine on FB I put Meg White Oh my… what fun that caused She's got style for sure. Makes it look easy" I fully agree about Meg White. And about critics of such as Ringo and Charlie Watts and the like for being too basic or simplistic or whatever. Its astounding the amount of covers bands I've both home and abroad that struggle to play these drummers' parts correctly and for the whole song!

"Can this be renamed to 'best drummer in the genre of western rock music', just so nobody gets embarrassed when the latin and jazz percussion sections picks up their sticks? Even as erratic as such as Moon got it still fitted. Perfectly. " I agree, and many of the current drummers wouldn't be even playing if it wasn't for the greats of the past, but there's definitely a massive progress from there. The same argument can obviously be made that Bonham wouldn't have been doing what he was doing if it wasn't for drummers like Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, Gene Krupa, but also guys like Keith Moon, Ginger Baker and Mitch Michelle were amongst the drummers who had obviously influenced Bonham... and one of his "signature" grooves is an obvious progression from the Great Bernard Purdi's famous half time shuffle. "Can this be renamed to 'best drummer in the genre of western rock music', just so nobody gets embarrassed when the latin and jazz percussion sections picks up their sticks? " Buddy Ritch, Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford, and Sheila E have all had a mention. But you're right that the selection is generally quite "mainstream".

"Ginger baker Keith moon Rick butler from the jam and Steve white " Steve White a great drummer and lovely guy. My son had some lessons with him and was in a competition he judged. His Sky series The Art of Drumming was fantastic and worth a watch for any drum fans - actually music fans more generally.

"For me it has to be Rick Allen of Def Leppard . They are my all time favourite group ,and from my home city .But after losing his arm in a car crash in 1984 ,he had to learn to drum with his feet ,and one remaining arm ,and went on to have unbelievable success with Leppard. The fact he overcame his injuries is remarkable in itself ,but then learning to drum again using his feet is beyond belief." If only he could have formed a group with Django Reinhardt- that would have been rather interesting to hear and made an awesome movie!
