Peckham protests part 2

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

The original thread is closed as it's too big. I would have replied direct to CandyCandy but filters stop me from doing so.

I wasn't saying the level of force used was reasonable or reasonable as I haven't seen the video and I don't know what impact factors were in play here.

I quoted the legislation in direct answer to someone else who was talking nonsense about the law saying you must let shoplifters steal and you can do nothing effective about it.

There is a very clear law that lets citizens tackle shoplifters.

I know nothing about this case so I won't comment on it.

So that's me being clearer on what I said.

Over to you guys to continue arguing.

Everything is tribal now, the fact the lady is black should mean nothing & the focus be on the alleged shoplifting but BLM will try to make Everything a race issue.

They are pure racists, I look & didn't consider the skin colour but the way the shopkeeper had hold of the woman.

I guess his business will be finished because he wouldn't accept shoplifting, what a bad man.

I have been actively keeping up with related live streams relating to the incident.

The lady was told she can get a credit note which the store owner was unaware of so she still wasn't stealing.

People that have never lived in a predominantly black or Asian community can not speak on things that affect those communities, if you can't LISTEN to UNDERSTAND best not to get involved.

I have never lived in a predominantly white, Mexican, Jewish area so if those communities said they felt a certain way by a continuing pattern of behaviours displayed towards them its not my place to dismiss them of what they're saying, I have a choice to listen and try understand or wish them well and get on with my business

The people who want to dismiss its not a race issue are clearly ignorant, black people have not said every Asian we are saying the majority there's a difference.

OP I would be careful you don't get a ban from the forums over riding a decision moderators have chosen and you vindictively open a thread on this topic which clearly moderators don't want spoken about.

Maybe because the incident is still under investigation as a grown man you surely know certain actions come with consequences

Absolutely, its a serious act he did on that woman. To have hands around a person's neck can only mean you are trying to restrict them of being able to breath

What ARE you talking about? My post is really clear.

I put the legislation about people being able to use force to stop theft because someone else said you must by law allow theft to happen.

Then you asked if I was trying to justify the level of force that had been used in this incident. I wasn't trying to justify anything, just quoting legislation.

All I'm saying is that you don't have to allow shoplifters a free rein.

I don't know anything about this incident, I don't know anything about a deleted thread, I don't know anything about overriding any moderators decision and I don't really understand why you've got a bee in your bonnet over what I've said. Nothing vindictive on my part, just adult conversation.

I don't care whose nerves I get on or don't.

It's a common knowledge fact, dismiss a person of how they feel and know something is, is ignorant and as I have said and will say again its always the people outside the black community to disregard a racial attack but I am yet to see someone who is black do it to someone else.

Racism exists and will never die, it's not always about racist slurs that make racism stand out but its sadly unprovoked attacks

Those who wish to see it allow themselves to be part of the problem and as the well known saying goes truth hurts its not what most people want to hear

Yes, I saw her hit the man. I saw her hit him before he defended himself and I saw her hit him when he wasn't even touching her. Essentially, she was trying to steal from an Asian shopkeeper who get frequently get targeted and she got caught. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - stop defending a violent racist thief.

The continuous pattern of how most Asian store owners and the men treat black women that's what makes it a racist issue.

From what I know he is the first to take matters as far as assaulting a black woman

It's a racial incident because she deliberately targeted an Asian-owned shop knowing that the shop-keepers will do very little about it because they're terrified of the usual response from the "local community", which, as you can see from the news, was as predictable as it always is. Now he is in hiding and his business may be ruined because he had the courage to open a shop in a neighbourhood like this.

Perhaps you should get your facts right. She was not given a credit note, she was told she could have store credit. She took goods off the shelf and tried to walk out with them without declaring what she had to the shop staff, which is legally theft. She treated the staff with complete racist disdain, then got violent when she was called out on it.

She had been shopping in that store for the past 10years nothing but that man and his anger towards the race made him commit a nasty act like that on a person.

He had to choose an area to provide products for his target audience or his wigs, packets of hair and cosmetics would be of no use otherwise.

He's not the only store owner in that area so its nothing to do with the area its the man and his staff that just did nothing

Seems like purely tribalism on behalf of the local 'community'.

Why else would they rally around a loudgob, racist, violent shoplifter? I don't understand why they (or anyone) are defending her?

I don't live life with expectations. People will either see where I'm coming from or they won't its up to them

I can speak from my own experiences and what friends of mine have gone through similarly to the woman in Peckham.

Racism will never die sadly but there will be people who will call it and others will listen as well as empathise

Then there will be others who will disregard it and stay ignorant they're the ones who will be part of the problem

People from that community have had their own issues with that store owner and his products he was selling to people that is why.

The man has been interviewed never once said she was racist to him but yet the forums are making these wild accusations

How interesting

Well OK.

But if someone from my community went around stealing and assaulting retail staff they would be ostracised, not defended.

"Well OK.

But if someone from my community went around stealing and assaulting retail staff they would be ostracised, not defended."

Exactly...But the opposite is being called for.

The protesters are calling for the boycott of all non-black businesses.

I haven’t said anything on this topic but it’s so interesting to me the way people on fab are treating a Black woman talking on this issue. Across multiple threads.

All I can say is- The girls that get it, get it. The girls that don’t, don’t.

I have watched a 30 second clip on BBC news and a 2 minute clip on Sky news.To me she picked up goods and was trying to leave the shop without paying for them in my eyes that makes you a thief. The man used force to stop her from leaving the shop only the man knows if it was excessive force either way if someone came into my business and tried to steal from me I would challenge them and ask them to put the goods back or pay for them.If they tried to walk out without paying for the goods and hit me with the basket then I would go into Mike Tyson mode probably throwing punches and kicks not trying to restrain them. She cried out r*** when it wasn’t Not sure how accurate this is but on the radio yesterday I heard that apparently there have been racial tensions between Black and Asians for sometime in Peckham

I’m not going to share my opinion on the incident because clearly there’s no discussion that will come out of it. But another interesting thing is the language I’ve seen across the three threads on this issue. From the calls for stronger violence towards this woman to the language used to describe people that peacefully came together in their local community as is their right. Implications on here and other social media that these people are jobless or aren’t intelligent. It all reeks. The tone reeks. It’s a familiar disgusting smell that never seems to fucking go away.

To those people- you are not slick.

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't even aware, or do I care, that she's black. I'm blocked from her profile and her avatar is far too small for me to see her skin colour. I'm talking to a person who is defending a violent, racist thief. Her ethnicity is of no consequence to me.

"A question for anyone if you don't mind. I haven't seen the incident so I hold no judgements one way or another. What's makes this a racial incident? Other than it involving 2 people of different races?

Absolutely nothing

"OP I would be careful you don't get a ban from the forums over riding a decision moderators have chosen and you vindictively open a thread on this topic which clearly moderators don't want spoken about.

Maybe because the incident is still under investigation as a grown man you surely know certain actions come with consequences

Cheers,

Gbat

Is that any force, or reasonable force can be used.

If reasonable force, what does that looklike?"

Reasonable force doesn't have a definitive definition. What he done wasn't reasonable, he was acting on instinct.

While this thread is still going, let's address the hysterical accusations of str@ngulation. Anybody with the vaguest knowledge of anatomy and physiology will know that the only way to effectively end a life via str@ngulation can only be achieved by occluding the trachea completely, for a time period of 2-3 minutes or more. To do this, the attack would have to be either from behind with the fingers pressed into the trachea, or from the front, with the thumbs pressed into the trachea. Sideways force would have to be immense, due to the massively strong sternocleidomastoid muscles on either side. It would take the weight of a full grown man kneeling on the neck for several minutes to restrict the airway sufficiently. This is what happened to George Floyd , but it seems that hysteria and lack of knowledge after this sad event make the slightest touch to the neck area by another person to be considered a serious attempt at str@ngulation. It isn't.

I don't think it is that wise to make new a thread without seeing the video. Links have been posted over and over on this. Of the very beginning too...

The link

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/sep/12/police-investigate-incident-black-shopper-apparently-grabbed-by-throat

Not sure what someone's filters have got to do with anything too - just post a thread if you want to surely?

Reasonable Force in 2023

It's the concept of 'reasonable force' that has changed over time, and everyone is well aware of that surely? You cannot so easily manhandle people any more! Yet we seem to have lost so much respect for women especially that we are prepared to do more than we one did it seems to me.

And it's all about police involvement! If you have a shoplifter on shop camera - *which didn't happen in shops like this in 1967 btw* - that will effect the level of force you need to apprehend them, because you can pass the information on to the police: they will now have video evidence.

Everyone else has to wait for their crimes to be solved, why can't over-physical shopkeepers?

And what had she taken is another factor too.

I hope this guy gets busted big time, and like a lot of 60's laws, it gets linguistically-revised to more-clearly fit into more-recent legislation too.

I don't want to see anyone going for a woman's neck!

You cannot just prevent someone leaving a shop and fight with them over a receipt issue. People have a right to their flight mechanism, especially woman and people with anxiety and suchlike.

That's not a woke excuse, it's simply a fact.

Genuinely wrongdoers only need to meet whatever reasonable justice is due to them under the Law, they *don't* "deserve" to be roughed up too.

So she will win her case.

'Reasonable' is a flexible word to meet the circumstances, and the circumstances is that this is 2023!!

Time flies I do realise, surely everyone has noticed this though? That we are now in 2023?

No, it doesn't, but it also doesn't make it attempted str@ngulation which is what the hysterical types are trying to escalate.

The continuous pattern of how most Asian store owners and the men treat black women that's what makes it a racist issue.

From what I know he is the first to take matters as far as assaulting a black woman "

So because you believe theres a 'continuous pattern', that automatically makes this incident racist?

All I can say is- The girls that get it, get it. The girls that don’t, don’t.

I know you're hot on racism towards the black community so I see your angle.

However, if you've seen the words of others towards her then you've seen her words towards others. Think about that for a minute.

Be fair- I’m on record on this forum of standing against all forms of racism actually. I’ve regularly called out antisemitism and racism against Black and Brown people.

Regardless- I’ve read the interactions. And I have my opinions.

I'd love to be fair, maybe it's because I very often see you vocal regards black people. I'm not for one minute saying you haven't called out against other communities.

I'd like to know your opinion on how that woman has behaved, seeing as you've voiced your opinion on how others have.

We’d all like things that aren’t going to happen

I didn't think you'd give it tbf. Tells it's own story

Don't blame him. He'd get grief from you and others whatever he said. "

Oh give over.

The guy is nothing but a race hustler, and hes been hanging around here stinking the place out with his toxic speak for ages. He needs to be called out

"I’m not going to share my opinion on the incident because clearly there’s no discussion that will come out of it.

I agree with you: I found it disturbing yesterday. The specific issues you mention stuck out for me like a sore thumb.

Are you able to predict the future? Maybe he would just get reasoned debate, something he seems incapable of.

Bess

But no, I'm sure he's delighted that a random woman off the internet is fighting his battles for him

Bess

Ah. More reasoned debate. I'm not a random. I'm his friend. "

No, that's not debate - it's a statement. There is a difference. Yes, I'm sure that you two are close buddies. When did you last meet up for a coffee? Ever? Or by friends, do you mean you've typed to him and he's typed back on an internet forum?

Oh for fucks sake. I’ll spell it out.

1. A poster said that you can’t stop shop lifters, it’s the law.

2. I said you can stop shop lifters and I quoted which law says you can.

3. You asked if I was trying to justify the use of strangulati0n.

4. I said I know nothing about the incident. I was just saying there IS a law that allows you to stop shoplifters.

5. I’ve never said she was a shop lifter.

6. I have neither supported nor denigrated the action of either person as I have no fucking clue what happened.

Hopefully that clears things up, but I somehow doubt it.

Do you have any opinion in how that user behaved towards others who offered debate? Or maybe the way she profiled a whole race?

"I don't think it is that wise to make new a thread without seeing the video.

That we are now in 2023?

pt"

agree with all of that. Much of it has been my thought the whole, I will be diplomatic here, debate.

At times it felt more like a medieval witch-hunt than the 60s.

To cut a long story short.

Woman shoplifts man tries to restrain her .

She attacks man .

Mob rule takes to the street .

Man loses his business .
