So I’ve an interview this Friday, getting up to speed on the job spec and various elements of it ie strategic statements, values, particulars of department etc..

Just wondered if any HR gurus out there have any too tips..?

If this is a like for like job compared to your current job - state that the principles remain the same. Read about the company online and ask them questions.

I once asked an interviewer why they thought I'd be a suitable candidate for them to invite for an interview.

They listed off why they thought I'd be suitable for the job.

Then I agreed with them.

Establish dominance by never breaking eye contact and refusing to end the handshake first. Answer every question with a question. Lead with a question about the salary.

Don’t worry about taking a moment to pause before jumping in to answer.

Being emotionally intelligent helps too as this is becoming a big part of companies wants at present.

Be yourself, the more relaxed you are the more you’re likely to be comfortable in answering any questions.

it’s ok to not know an answer and saying that yet putting it back to the interviewer to perhaps elaborate a little more

Depends on the role you're going for. General advice: Have some examples in your mind of times you've solved a problem, worked well in a team, strengths and weaknesses...remember to turn your weakness into a positive by explaining how you worked/ are working on it to develop professionally.

As someone else said, emotional intelligence...the importance of things like active listening and showing empathy when dealing with conflict resolution and delivering constructive criticism.

When I'm interviewing I like someone who shows a bit of personality, is honest when they don't know something but says they would find out and throws in some unique examples and a genuine reason for why they have a passion for the particular role

Depending on what kind of role you are interviewing for, you could ask the interviewer where they see the company in five years, how they are planning for growth etc.

One guy I interviewed just asked me straight why I was working for the company and would I still be around in two years. I hired him.

Hiya,before I start, I'm not cocky or big headed or anything like that,I'm an engineer,I've got some of the world's biggest companies on my CV,as well as a couple of local ones too,there's a fine line between cocky and confident,if I'm attending an interview,I know I'm there because I genuinely think I can do that job I'm going for,therefore Il sell myself,the best I can,do some research about the place and what they do, believe me I've had that thrown at me,and learnt afterwards,that was a big one by the company,tell them you're adaptable,give examples of it,eye contact I think is massive,it's says you're confident,and make it known you love learning and everyday is a school day,as I say confidence and cockyness is a fine line,just be you,that's all I do,

Hey and what's the worst that can happen.....they say no.......so what go again with another job
