Depends on the length of the mooring rope and the height of the flood.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Sometimes some do. For the most part don't boats and water go together?

Isn't it because they are built to float?

Some boats do get dragged under, But in marinas they have floating pontoons with walkways that are hindged to the bank, boats are moored on the gangways so go up and down with the water level, most harbour walls have slip ring moorings like you would see in some locks. Other than that they use a long ancore rope.

It was a question I had to answer for evie. She thought it was just luck that they never sank, and hadn't thought about the fact they float on water. I just was interested in other responses

Have seen some disasters where people have forgotten to loosen the mooring ropes on a canal boat in a lock, and then opened the sluice gates - oops !

Derby/Notts(Long Eaton)

The boat on the pontoon next to my boat sank recently but not through floods just the amount of rain which collected in the open deck area
