You know that dodgy concrete stuff that's all in the news just now .now is it just me that's missing something here? Various departments are bandying dates around when they became aware of a problem, but surely the problem was obvious when it was first used when it had a life expectancy of 30yrs..every one had 30 yrs notice of a problem.?

If they had built the schools properly, using long-lasting materials in the first place, it wouldn’t have cost much more, but now the repair will cause upheaval and will cost a fortune. Ironically, if the Conservatives had rebuilt, the schools 10 years ago, they would’ve been branded money wasters by Labour and liberals it’s all pointscoring

I had loads of typos and forgot I had started giving background, before explaining. It was all out of order and confusing. I’d post again but now I’m too lazy to type it again.

You can say I know a thing or two about this. Let’s leave it at that.

Labour were rebuilding the schools between 2005 and 2011 via Building Schools for the Future and Partnerships for Schools. £55bn was earmarked for it. PfS wasn't without its problems (my OH worked there but Gove scrapped it in 2011.

couple, us we him her.

Not just schools but loads of public buildings.

It's a shit storm that's been brewing for years.

And their big solution.

Portacabins!

There's schools out there with 30plus year old cabins only meant for ten years max.

And don't even start about asbestos.

My primary school had Portacabins from the late 1970s until the early 2000s, when they knocked the whole thing down and built a glass and steel monstrosity in its place. Mobile classrooms were standard practice for many years.

Surely if you know that there might be a problem in 30yrs, you plan for it..unless you don't expect to be the one in power.
