It struck me today how many years ago(be it the way we were brought up) but eating pasties sandwiches n stuff as you walked along was not a dine thing

Now it’s just the norm

Was anyone else brought up the same?

Nope, I was raised, or dragged up, that if it wasn’t on a plate with a knife, fork or spoon next to it you could eat it anywhere you wanted

And I still do

When I was young I used to go out to play eating a sugar sandwich or a brown sauce sandwich. Still enjoy the odd one today for nostalgia reasons but more behind closed doors than walking down the street lol

High Lighthouse!

I don't think I've ever encountered that in this country.

It's very much a thing in some places though (Japan for example) where it can be seen as rude.

I'm often grab something (Gregg's sausage roll, mmmm) between meetings if I'm in town.

Not something I’d do. How can you enjoy your food whist walking?

Is it unheard of by most, not for me, to eat a bag of chips while walking home, or a sarnie, pastie, sausages roll, kebab, pizza or we’ll any kind of cutleryless foods lmao

Up until my twenties it was unusual to be able to buy food you could eat in the street unless it was a cake or a piece of fruit. Walking along drinking coffee or carrying water everywhere you went wasn't something anyone even considered and walking round a supermarket with a free coffee would have been laughed at.

Have you seen the most recent ad for a thing from McDonald's that is two bits of bread with something yellow oozing from it? I honestly don't think a lot of this food is designed to be enjoyed.

It makes me feel old but yes I remember that. My parents would go mad if I dared go out of the house with some food, or if I tried to eat something in the street.

I wish people would go back to that tbh. It would probably mean less litter, and also less people with stains down their clothes - it knocks me sick and is a pretty common sight in leeds centre.

My mum used to tell me that it caused stomach aches if you ate standing up, to encourage me to sit at the table

It was a real treat for us to eat from a tray in front of the telly .

Times change and what's acceptable changes with them. I own and use tablecloths and linen napkins for instance. Our kids don't. My grandmother laid the table even when she ate alone.

All over

I think it all depends exactly what and where. Enjoying an icecream or having a chocolate or a small pasty or something of that nature is harmless as os for example enjoying your fish and chips on a bench looking at the sea. What bothers me more is when people eat smelly stuff on buses, tubes etc. However what upsets me is when they don't dispose containers, wrappers etc with care but throw everywhete. That is definately disgaceful behaviour.
