Hello!

A potential post that gets lost in the ether but theres a particular rabbit hole I have been down this morning concerning the above Effect.

With a crazy world that keeps on getting madder, has anyone experienced the above? Where your certain you remember a historic event /scene / moment but it turns out its untrue / slightly different than what you remember?

Mine are :

C3POs leg in SW being silver and not gold

JFK - 4 seats instead of 6

Do people really "remember" Nelson Mandela dying in prison? I just find that so hard to believe!

It's not a memory at all, it's part a bullshit exaggeration to sell a new meme, and part down to the fact that we are entering an era of post-education (or post knowledge perhaps), where people can somehow survive by following their phones like a donkey following a carrot on a stick.

Another one is people (not me! Never been to NYC) remember being able to ascend the statue of liberty to the torch.

But that hasnt been possible for a 100 years.

I've just had a look online

The ones that stand out for me are

- monocle on the monopoly man

- the "hello clarice" one from silence of the lambs

- "luke I am your father"

- "mirror mirror on the wall" I remember this vividly from my childhood

- "where are champions" where Freddie Mercury does NOT say "of the world" at the end of the song, another one I can remember vividly, even if I sing this line now I say " of the world" lol

I've never looked into this properly before, feels like I've gone down a rabbit hole no

Misquotes and miss-spread information. People telling stories and getting it wrong leading to the wrong memories.

"Luke, I am your father" (spoilers!) instead of "No, I am your father"

The Luke is generally added for context instead of a random admission of fatherhood, And people rolled and ran with it. Forcing it to be the official yet incorrect way of saying it.

"*now"

Its a very dark and dee0 rabbit hole ( apologies!!!)

It is interesting in a way and there are things that are strange about it but all very explainable.

Indeed, I agree for the above... alot of misquoting for films / shows!
