That was a perfect Sunday night, getting ready to tape the next song , hoping to catch the radio DJ in the recording

I miss......

- Being able to go to the cinema and see something that wasn’t either super heroes or Star Wars

- mars bars (and all other choc bars) being a reasonable size

- WWF wrestling being fun with Bret Hart, HBK, Warrior, Randy Savage etc.

- the days when Stallone and Schwarzenegger were the biggest stars in Hollywood.

- rock and metal music before Nirvana came along and ruined everything

- VHS and cassette tapes

- Being able to look forward to a new Lord of the Rings film every Xmas.

- the huge virgin megastore that used to exist in downtown Disney in Orlando Florida.

Bernard Manning (God rest his soul )

Being able to drive anywhere without the clean air zealots wanting to fleece my wallet.

A world where people didn't get offended by anything even slightly controversial and slightly offensive .

And a workplace where banter was the norm and accepted .

I miss not being able to look something up if I don’t know it, so you and your mates sit about discussing what it might be

And having the ability to just take your phone off the hook and know that people won’t get hold of you on social media and ten other ways too to ask “why aren’t you answering???” because they would simply assume that you aren’t home

I miss people being tribal about their taste in music and flying the flag with a T-shirt showing their favourite band

I miss distortion in popular music

I miss corner shops that aren’t part of a chain and markets which aren’t “artisan”

I miss buttons where we have touch screens now

I miss being served by a cashier instead of dysfunctional and unreliable AI that points a camera in your face

I miss everyone having to watch the newest episode of tv shows at the same time so we all discuss it the next day

I miss split screen multiplayer video games and giving your mate a dead arm because he “looked at your screen” on goldeneye

I miss kids going crazy for non digital toys

I miss dogs being allowed in public spaces without some idiot telling you that all dogs are inherently dangerous, despite our millions of years of shared evolution

I miss pubs being pubs and the smell of stale ale and crisps on a hot day

I miss controversy being seen as punk rock and progress rather than a sign of outdated views and intolerance

I miss kids being allowed to get giddy and misbehave without being diagnosed with some disorder and pilled up

I miss people being told that it’s ok to be weird and to not fit in rather than being told that they need to define an identity and “educate people on it”

I miss the belief in community values rather than social values. The former has a better emphasis on togetherness

I miss times when not everyone had the internet and so people had to make an effort with their relationships rather than simply saying “didn’t you see it on Facebook?”
