Theatre bosses getting more concerned about audience behavior. Police called tk theatres to quell crowds and objects like mobile phones thrown at performers. It used to be that people dressed to go to the theatre but now they let anyone in. But history repeats. In Elizabethan times it was worse. What's going on here guys. It's all over the news

We went to see a ballet last year and the crowd more like a chimp's tea party, with packed lunches and rubbish everywhere noise.

We got all dressed up nice and wish we hadn't.

Still we had lush pie and mash from a great pub in the Tottenham court road beforehand.

My most recent trip to the opera I found that some people in the audience hadn't dressed up, they had carrier bags on the floor and ate snacks all the way through.

I hope after this morning's entire-thread removal I notice - in which some posters were clearly taken by the very tired 'it's all over the news' line imo - this thread is the first of a run of less provocative by this OP.

And I hope the self-bumping reduces too. There is always new 'news' to drop after all. There is need to hammer old news, the juicy stuff always comes round again hey.

The last time I went to the theatre it was ok, but it was a while ago now. British theatres used to be particularly respectful of conventions though. The one I went to (an old one in Cardiff) has three floors that go down in price (and class) as they rise to the gods.

It was a report on Jeremy Vine’s radio show recently. Apparently a musical had to be stopped halfway through a performance as audience members were singing along and drowning out the cast and other audience members got arsey. Can see their point, it’s not cheap to go to the Theatre.

I think I’d get miffed too. I want to hear people that can actually sing and not Roger from No. 35 airing his lungs.

Oh the irony lol. Without going into it (obviously) - people actually didn't yesterday! That was the joke at first. It all got tangly after a supporter of the POV took it up. So you can't just blame those threads on the people who 'take the bait', as people were doing. Some people will take on opinions that (in certain areas) a lot of people feel *need* to be countered or corrected.

People have different views on what can and can't be passed by in society - and that needs to be respected I think.

I don't always like seeing full-thread removal but I don't care that it's gone. I did put a bit of time into it though and would rather see my own posts removed if that is possible. I think this was a message sent out in general maybe - but the OP is so prolific that I just hope he cares either way. Hence my post today I guess.

Re the theatre, the play I saw was really gripping btw, that might make a difference on behaviour in-show, as the would the time day and year with bags etc perhaps. I'm guessing we are all talking the prime times and shows here though?

Class is reducing in scope (though clearly not in actuality, though politicians make everyone look rough imo) yet financial issues still abound all round, so the tier structure will still work for a lot of people (it does across theatres too) but will likely be less and less ineffective as a 'barrier' at the same time too.

Some people drink too much for sure. What respect there is just goes, and the world is all about them. Hope they felt awful afterwards, but who knows.

Well not related to this but Toms threads are just that. Topical news items and he always says to his critics. If it says Tom on the tin then you pretty much know what you are going to get. Sharks, spiders, snakes, and similar. As he always says. There are threads for everyone. Instead try, Tits out Tuesday or Fishnets Friday.

Tom does not make the news, he merely reports it. Now if the Australian Prime Minister is asked a question and he same one is put to Rishi and Keir and they won't answer them only reasonable to put it in the forum.

Now as regards theatre audiences Tom is surprised that picnics are allowed in.

It was absolute chaos when I last went to the theatre. A large proportion of the audience had clearly been drinking before the show, people standing up, singing and dancing loudly. There was even people shouting out obscene things to the cast, so much so that some of the cast broke away from the script and their acting to reply to filth directed towards them. It really was an unruly mob, dressing up to go to the theatre? more like dressing down... Some were even stripping off and prancing about in just their lingerie

Got to say, it was great experience and I'd recommend the Rocky horror show to anyone who hasn't been to it, the audience plays it part in making it a great show!
