There are words that have come to the English lexicon derived from names; such as "hooligan" and "boycott" due to the nature of said people.

I'd like to propose one... Rubiales. It means totally not grasping the issue. Not simply an idiot, but blind to the specific issues of diversity and inclusion. I for one will start to use it...

Who has he excluded, what diversity is he blind to?The fact he is involved in women's sport suggests he is in favour of diversity/inclusion.Spaniards like many Mediterranean people's are hot headed, passionate and far less reserved at public displays of emotion. An apology for getting swept up in the moment(they had after all just won the World Cup,and for the first time) should suffice, but today some people want your job, your future, public villification, exile, cancellation, death threats, hatred and for good measure execution. Was he a dick in the moment?of course.

And should he have been sensitibe to the wider impact of his actions? Of course, f*****g of course!

I don't understand the 'got swept up in the heat of the moment' defence. That actually makes it worse as it suggests he cannot control himself when he gets over-excited.

It also means, of course, that soneone making that defence is minimising sexual assau1t.

Is grabbing a head hold and kissing on lips allowed as being diverse or perverse.

Vilda was seen grabbing a females boob. Perverse or diverse.

All in the 'moment'.

Not sure what you mean by again?

In fact, I thought he would have been discussed but would you believe a Forum search on [Rubiales] here revealed nothing.

Nada.

Anyone trying to say that it's a Spanish or Mediterranean way to behave [to forcibly kiss someone] is clearly showing their lack of knowledge and understanding of Spanish culture.

Also please go and read about what the world was like for Spanish women between 1936-1975 and then come back and give us a brief synopsis. Rubiales was born just after the demise of Franquismo and so was raised by parents who had lived under that regime and would have entered a world still finding its way out of aforementioned regime.

The spectre of this era still pervades Spanish society, unfortunately.

Feel free, it's a ridiculous situation that a man who was part of a world cup win even if for a sport no one watches gets accused of sexual assult for an euphoric kiss which the lady happily accepted. You all saw it.

This is not sexual assault no matter how high your horse is.

It's a power play & the few men that were international this minority sport will now be less along with many womewho can see the wood from the trees.

"Have we got him yet"? "Incel"? Just sheer Stupidity at its finest.

Misogynist, bigot, bully, block, whatever. Fill your boots and I,m sure there will be another bandwagon for your fake disgust soon.

I agree, I'm aware my opinion is unpopular, I've been referred to as having a vile way of thinking and accused of being a Trump supporter all because I expressed my view that this situation has got totally out of hand and has absolutely nothing to do with victimisation of women. It's an exercise in malicious manipulation by media.

So nobody watches it, but we all saw it

The point which you have spectacularly missed, is kissing somebody in the hope that it will be 'happily accepted' is sexual assault.

Don't agree, have kissed & been kissed in situations of celebrations without asking or being asked by both sexes & we all dismiss it for what it truly is.

Okay so tomorrow when you are out and about in town, grab a woman's face and kiss her on the lips. You don't agree that it is assault so you will almost certainly be okay.

Ok, he’s out of a job, he’s in court on sexual assault charges.

That’s not enough?

Where does it end? After they’ve hounded him enough that he decides to end his life?

I understand that they like it when you "grab them by the pussy". Someone who had a great deal with responsibility in the world once said something similar and lots of people clapped and cheered him into a position of power. So it must be true

Those are two completely nonsensical statements to me.

It the Spanish who have been on his case!

And 'Spanish women's' sport too!!! Or are they all weak-minded sheep too?

A man in that role 'suggests' nothing at all. He's just a man in a job, and one with a rep it seems.

As for the 'hounding' stuff, who knows what is true when TruthCentral tells you the news?

You are simply overlooking not just most Spanish people, but crucially most Spanish *women*. It just amazes me it really does.

You cannot just grab hold of a woman.. and especially then pretend she allowed it beforehand (so how is it impromptu if that happened?). And 'Simply apologising' was something he failed to properly do. And of course globalgammon.com took up his case globally, at least as any other media did, likely a lot more imo. The fool was politically swept up by the Hard Right, and thus Rubiales became an issue for everyone.

This week, a female Spanish "roving reporter" was sexually assaulted live on air, by a man who groped her bottom. The behaviour of Rubiales simply reinforces the perceived right of some men to do as they please.

The Spanish media (of all persuasions) is awash with stories of women who have been assaulted in their places of work, education and lots of other places. Where their careers have been stymied due to discrimination on the basis of their sex etc.

Rubiales' behaviour is symptomatic of a wider problem in some areas of Spanish society, which is only just now being talked about properly.

Every single one of my Spanish friends agrees Rubiales was not only wrong but that his behaviour in grabbing and kissing Jenni Hermoso and in grabbing his crotch at the final whistle, was all about displaying dominance over a squad who had voiced disquiet and dissatisfaction before the tournament.

It's telling when even Vox politicians agree he need to resign and be dealt with.

All the men arguing that Rubiales didn't do anything wrong - isn't it enough that the woman in question said it was not consensual. Is that not all that is needed, the video and her word? Why're you arguing that it was ok when the woman concerned said it wasn't? It's not your call, it's hers.

Grabbing his crotch was 'displaying dominance'! Ive heard it all now! Fucking hell

But you don't want to interact with me, am I right? You explicitly stated you did not wish to interact. Yet, here you are, when it suits you.

I wonder what that's called?

And yes, dominance. Drawing attention to one's genitals and doing a pelvic thrust is a display of dominance. It's quite a primitive one seen in other primates too.

Ah right ok. So because monkeys might do it thats means we do it for the same reasons. Gotcha. No flaw in that logic

Dolphins have sex for pleasure. So do humans. It doesn't mean we are dolphins. But I'm sure your knowledge of evolutionary biology is second to none and so I'll leave you to it, Professor.

I know nothing about it, and it has nothing to do with this situation. Stop talking bollocks for once "

Yes Sir. Sorry Sir. *Quietly retreats to scullery*

"All the men arguing that Rubiales didn't do anything wrong - isn't it enough that the woman in question said it was not consensual. Is that not all that is needed, the video and her word? Why're you arguing that it was ok when the woman concerned said it wasn't? It's not your call, it's hers. "

Im not saying he didnt do anything wrong. Im just asking for a proportionate response

Again, that's the call of the police and FIFA isn't it? And - if he won't acknowledge he's made a mistake, that he was wrong, if his approach is to double down - why should he keep his job?

See whenever a footballer scores and their team mates surround them and kiss them and grab them. Is that sexual assault? Who will be the first player to get one of his team mates sacked and jailed.

Meanwhile a Spanish team has recently signed a rapist.

"The fact he is involved in women's sport suggests he is in favour of diversity/inclusion....Spaniards like many Mediterranean people's are hot headed, passionate and far less reserved at public displays of emotion.

.

The fool was politically swept up by the Hard Right, and thus Rubiales became an issue for everyone.

pt

Jesus you dont have talk some awful shite in here. Youre obsessed with left and right!

"

.

Rubiales' apologists always avoid the annoying little details don't they?

Why should they get to control (and thus reduce) the narrative?

The idea that it's all been led by the woke press?

The idea that all Rubiales did wrong was a 'silly' over-zealous kiss?

I don't like bullying narratives, especially such reductive ones.

It's always about misleading people for political motives.

Namely, the utterly-selfish desire to safeguard every personal freedom you might ever possibly have, regardless of any potential cost to others. All such people have (even slightly) in their favour is that it's all politically whipped-up paranoia (yes from the hard Right of course) - which they just cannot properly see because of the horribly self-righteous indoctrination 'trap' they are in. Only 'Them Other' can be the fools, never themselves. Top of the phone news is not your friend.

Rubliales is not another woman footballer for a start. He's a powerful man, she's a woman.

Try expanding your argument to various other examples are watch it all collapse for you by the way! (At least I hope you eventually see a flaw or two!)

But why are you trying so hard to make this man seem ok?

What for?

Physicality towards women has skyrocketed in recent years. And people like Trump and worse Tate talk as if women's bodies are not their own at all. Young males are having to be told in schools not to ch*ke their girls and call them gross words. People are desperate to move forward.

Ah, I'd missed that. And hadn't kept up with the story. I note he is still claiming innocence.

Players boycotting on the face of it seems unwarranted, but digging a little deeper.

"The signatories call for a revamp of women’s football, the resignation of the interim president Pedro Rocha, and a restructuring of the communications, marketing and ethics departments."

The Marketing team wrote a statement supposedly from Hermoso which she later said were not her words. I can see why a restructure might be asked for.

I cannot see where his assets were frozen? Only that it was denied by the judge.

"Judge Francisco de Jorge issued a restraining order against Rubiales, barring him from being within 200 meters (656 feet) of Hermoso. State prosecutors had asked for a 500-meter ban and a requirement for Rubiales to check in with a judge every 15 days, but the judge rejected that, as well as Hermoso's attorney's request for Rubiales' assets to be frozen, the AP reports. The fact that this was even requested is embarassing and frankly worrying. That prosecutor should be removed from the case for such an outrageous ask.

And what about all the female footballers who said they didn't 'feel safe' because of him. Does that sound reasonable to you?

I guess this response is proportionate to his refusal to admit he was wrong, his insistance that she lied and the Spanish FA's legal case against Hermoso.

If the morning after he'd put his hands up admitted he'd made a mistake and been a role model for change, the response would have been different. Instead he jumped in with the 'you can't do anything these days brigade' and doubled down.

Pretty ridiculous/standard thing for an attorney to call for - the important thing is that the judge turned it down. And a pretty standard press statement for a PR team to draft! They're fully taking advantage of the situation to get a more balanced situation for the female players. Rubiales has gifted it to them really.
