When someone takes their eyes off of their phone? I walk through London and everyone walking towards me is staring at their phone. The lift doors open and everyone getting out of the lift is staring at their phone. Everyone sitting on the train is staring at their phone. When people are walking along the pavement and on the rare occasion they are not staring at their phone they are still holding their phone in a position so it's ready to be stared at again! Do they self combust if they don't look at it? Will they die? I've got to the point where I dare not look at my phone in case it takes over my life too !! We live in a crazy sad world !

Maybe the phone gives some people an excuse to avoid eye contact as they move around. I know someone who suffers anxiety when out and about and her phone helps her focus

MM and if you are walking towards the phone zombies and accidently knock them at the same time you are the one watching where your going, its you in the wrong at the way they give you that glare.

Maybe but 75% of the population don't suffer with anxiety?

Reading

Worse are those who listen to loud music. A lot of the pavements in Reading are shared cyclists and pedestrians. I have had 2 near misses thanks to people on phones. Though they are not as bad as the pigeons. One will kill me one day.

The mind boggles ! I saw a girl a couple of weeks ago who was staring at her phone and walked straight across a main road in London in front of a truck! Luckily it was only going slowly and stopped before it hit her but what the hell is so important that would make you do that?

It’s spooky, I was going to start an almost identical thread after just getting back from the supermarket, and having been walked into 3 times by people walking and staring down at the phones. and don’t even get me started on the trolley drivers on their phones trashing the aisles and peoples ankles.

It's not just me then !! What the heck are they all looking at that's so important?

Beats the hell outta me.

I suspect it’s just an ingrained habit to adopt that holding phone pose, and scroll aimlessly.

When you are rushing to catch a train and you are continuously confronted with hoards of zombies not looking where they are going on a daily basis it does start to get to you !! I DON'T BELIEVE IT !!

You should go into YouTube and search for "Mobile Phone distraction fails" and you'll see it's actually very dangerous. But sadly won't deter people.

There are also a lot of YouTube videos that suggest having "quiet" time is good for the soul. That's why people have time to think in the shower or brushing teeth. It's the only few times in the day not looking at the phone (like I'm doing now)... Pppfffttt...

I'm going to go on YouTube as the thought of someone hurting themselves due to their own stupidity is too appealing for me to miss !!

Zombies are real and amongst us.I've stopped moving out of the way,let them walk into me, quite often this results in them dropping the phone.Hope it breaks.

I don't look at my phone as I'm walking but I have noticed myself immediately getting it out on the bus or if I'm alone in a cafe for instance. I seem to have lost the art of simply sitting and thinking for a long period of time.

I might place a self imposed ban on phone use when I'm out

You can spot the ones using maps as they look at their phone and look around them for landmarks etc. They are not glued to the screen ! These, as I've now found out are actually the zombies !!

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

The worst ones are those who walk into the road without taking their eyes off the phone, people cycling looking at the phone and bicyclists riding along taking a selfie in their lycra fancy dress.

Last weekend I did see a young girl driving on the M6 near Birmingham in the middle lane / lane 2 (obviously) at about 60mph, steering her car with the sides of her hands on top of the wheel whilst using both thumbs to type !! Unbelievable!!
