"The bottom line in today's e-World is that terrorists are using the internet to disseminate information and set up terror cells. " That's a chickenshit response. How come back in the days of post and the IRA this wasn't justification to steam open every letter sent via royal mail. It's got sweet fuck all to do with monitoring terrorists, and everything to do with monitoring citizens. Oh yes, the bill in question only seeks to legitimize what is already going on.

"Oh yes, the bill in question only seeks to legitimize what is already going on." I was wondering when someone would pick up on that. Why does the govt want to legitimise what they're already doing and have been doing for years? Because terrorists can use as a defence in a court of law that the govt obtained information illegally. Unfortunately, for the govt to close that loophole they have to introduce a bill to include all citizens but they know who they want to listen to, and it isn't me and you. There are much bigger fish to fry than a few swingers who like shoving their cocks in places other than their wife's pussy.

Pretty sure thats exactly what they told people in the late 1930s Germany & Post war Russia. We only want to spy on certain groups

Tell you what, let's have unrestricted internet access and have it unmonitored completely. The govt will be totally blind as to what's being said, by whom, to whom. And when the bombs start going off in London again and people start dying you can smirk comfortably from your bedroom in Bolton safe in the knowledge that your latest attempt in trying to get some bint's knickers off won't be known by anyone other than you. and her.

" They just want to know what everyone is doing as its much more simple to control them." If we're just talking about Joe Public how will they be able to control me by knowing I phone my mum everyday and sometimes watch the football on an Arab tv channel? They could monitor me 24/7. They'd learn fuck all let alone enough to control me

"Anyone who gets the job of monitoring our mails phone and internet usage will save a fortune on ovaltine. Its mind numbingly dull. On top of that we couldn't give a fuck." It's done by triggering certain keywords though isn't it. I mean you wouldn't want to talk about Granny's birthday party being a BLAST, and that she NEVER SAW IT COMING, but that it went like a BOMB. Shame about Uncle Bert having a heart ATTACK though. This message will self destruct in 10.. 9... 8...

You will, when your smartphone toting child is in receipt of a picture of another kid in the same class, picked up by the wifi at home, because it is child pornography, and that is an ABSOLUTE offence (google it)

"This a tough subject the right to privacy verses the right to security. The way i understand it records of traffic will be kept .ie "who spoke to who and when " ,but the detail will only be available via a magistrate court order having just cause etc. On the other hand many subversive groups gave up on technology years ago and now communicate person to person . The issue of eavesdropping on the population is not a new concept, take a look at the questions raised concerning RAF Menwith Hill in parliament,an establishment run by the NSA. I think it can work as long as the independent safeguards are in place and protected by law, being a swinger would not be just cause to open the traffic. Lets face it if they want to know who is fucking who they only have to read the verifications .. "

" Lets face it if they want to know who is fucking who they only have to read the verifications .. " Ah, but ... BUT... if somebody doe snot leave a verification because they did not have a good meet... then they would not be any wiser... So that is not a reliable source

Being a swinger, or having an 'unusual' sexual enthusiasm, might be enough to convince a Judge that someone is a security risk. THAT might be just cause.

Dodgy cloak and dagger MI6 type secretive person thingy: S'cuse me judge, sign this will ya. Judge: What is it? Dodgy cloak and dagger etc etc: Oh, it's just a legal thingy to let us tap into someone's email. Judge: What for? Dodgy etc etc: Um.. well, he .. um.. likes putting it about a bit. Judge: Put what about? Dodgy etc etc: His thingy, y'know, his tool. Judge: And that's the basis for your intrusion into his life? Dodgy: Well, he's got a nice bird and I'd like to see her tits.

"If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear. thats what oppressive regimes have advocated before.. Stasi etc.. Granted, they have, but the UK govt can hardly be compared to the Stasi can it. (don't answer that). " methinks you have answered that... clearly not on the whole, but look at our recent history with renditions and implications of torture etc.. we certainly have some within the system who are happy to trample on riights for some in what they perceive to be 'for the greater good'..

I figure that if it stops him and his ilk from accomplishing their task then the ends justifies the means.

" ............ most of the guys we have rendered and had other friendly states torture to answer our questions have turned out to be innocent.. ................ .." It's not actually been possible to prove a charge against 'most of the guys we have rendered'. That's not the same thing as turning out to be innocent. A bit like Not Proven in Scots Law.
